What do you use?

I'm going to give swiftkey a week or so, but I've been quite impressed, in some cases it basically gets the sentence I'm about to type with only 3-4 actual letter inputs.

Hope you like it. I use smart keyboard pro and love it; I mostly like the fact that I can change the size of the keys. A little smaller and it has improved my speed and ease of use.

I've got flash player set on demand, is there a way to change it to always on?

after this i'll stop bothering you
I'm liking swift key now! I sent a whole text with typing one letter then it predicted what i was going to say :s-smilie:

Although it still says I want to say Braithwaite...I might have to start dropping that into convos

Also some of the predictions are hilarious, "i'm" is always followed with "drunk" or "drunkle" (my drunken spelling of drunk), some phrases are just insane, I'd written "I don't know what to" and it suggested "llama"...not sure where i've used llamas in my text before...but I'm proud of myself for doing it

Better to have it on demand, browsing experience is more fluid because flash content isn't being loaded.

go to settings.

Scroll and click advanced settings.

Scroll down to 'enable plugins'

Change it to on

BTW this will eat your battery very quickly. I would recommend that you leave it on demand. + what yoyo said.

Ask away, I don't mind.

I use swift key but change back to the stock android keyboard when I want to type quickly when composing a long email.

Does anyone think with the rumoured screen resolution of the iPad being 4x it's current 1024 × 768 that Motorola need to ramp up their's on the Xoom? Another thing does anyone have any idea how much it's going to be priced? I'm thinking of saving up for one starting now cos no doubt it will be somewhere around the £400/500 mark at least...

I think people found somewhere in the code that it would be the same resolution, I can assure you it won't be 4x the current one. For obvious reasons like it's certainly not cost effective at this moment in time, 30" 2056 panels costs nearly 1K let alone a 10" screen. No mobile GPU/CPU would be able to run that comfortably, remember even a PS3 wouldn't be able to run that resolution, unless the new ipad is running SLI GTX 260's I think we're cool.

In terms of price, anything over 500 and its probably above my pay role.

Blackdroid is up and running for me, was iffy a bit earlier.

What part don't you understand? I've done pretty much everything that guide has said (at one time or another) so I could help if you want to...

Hmmmm interesting, didn't know that. I do hope that they price is competitively i.e. sub £500 cos otherwise it's just unaffordable :huff:

Blackdroid was down for a wee while earlier...I thought it was taken down altogether.

Explain the concept of custom ROM, and what use carrying out this guide will be to me.

Am I missing out on something here?

Custom ROMs basically aim to improve and build on Froyo and optimise the phone and fix as many problems as possible. Using different launchers for the homescreen and general customisations like the lockscreen, the themes for the icons and so on...you can have a look at one of the popular ones here clicky, scroll down for screenshots...

The Kernels fix other problems, for example the filesystem that the SGS uses is slow, you can convert it to a different filesystem (EXT4) to improve responsiveness of the phone dramatically, I mean when you do it you will notice a lot less lag and the phone will be faster. One of the other problems is the sounds quality of the phone through speakers and the bass on the FM radio.

You're not missing something per se but you haven't seen how fast the phone can be yet. If you don't want to use a custom ROM you should at least update to the latest firmware if you haven't already done so. You can have a look in Settings --> About phone and then go down to Baseband version to see which version you have.
