Britain is overcrowded... something needs to be done about immigration...

I agree that those people are in the minority, which is why it doesn't particularly bother me. Also, I didn't say that was a reason for closing the borders, I was using it as an example to show that the British culture is fading.

It's not really a valid reason if an absolutely miniscule amount of people oppose a national day. St. George's Day isn't what you'd call essentially and exclusively "British" anyway, it's celebrated by numerous countries and cities as well, plus St. George was a Roman soldier.

I think British culture is about the small things (and intangable things) we take for granted, and not things such as national holidays i.e. the side of the road we drive on, the language we speak, the social norms when greeting someone, the climate, our obsession with sports, our monarchy, our self-mocking humour etc...These are the things that make Britain what it is in my opinion.

While I agree that our climate can't be changed by immigration, what I was trying to get at, was that if we aren't careful, some of the things that you mentioned will become the minority. It could take 50 years, 100 years or longer than that but the side of the road we drive on and the language we speak can easily change. It's a bit like if the bureaucrats in Berlin had their way, I'm sure we'd have the Euro by now.

It would be better if the UK (other then scotland) had more mountains/inaccessible land though, to put a limit on sprawl.
Take Japan for example, it's about the size of the UK and has double the population, but has a lot more inaccessible land so the population have to resort to living coastal cities/towns, which still leaves plenty of space for wilderness.

They've just adapted by building places like this.

So, that's a plan B I guess.

Let me guess, your African or Asian, and want your family to come here.

No just an ordinary citizen of the world wanting to share our country with everyone happily and peacefully.
Nothing needs to be done. It's fine. Let Britain become more multicultural which it needs to be if it is to survive. Britain needs a socialist/communist revolution pretty badly.
I think it is personally. The argument that "theres plenty of spare land" doesent hold for me. I want my countryside. I dont want every part of my countryside tarmacked over, so im guessing most posters are just using that to be awkward.

Like a previous poster said, the NHS is overworked, and while there are jobs, there are certainly not a lot of them, and the unemployment rate speaks for this.

However, one thing that I maintain, is that immigration overall, is good. There is a shortage of jobs. However, what jobs are these immigrants taking? The worst ones? Mostly. How many people in the UK would take these? Not many. Even those that have virtually no qualifications, who haven't done anything all their life think that they are above cleaning toilets etc. Is this right? Again, no. Im all for equality, however, the argument that those who haven't worked as hard as others should get the same as those who have worked hard holds no ground for me, at all.

That's a very idealistic and subjective opinion. There have, to date, been no prosperous, long-lasting communist states where multiculturalism has been encouraged and enjoyed. Communism is a dream which has very few practical applications, hence why so few countries have survived have prospered under communism (except China, but China's constitution is hardly applicable to the UK).

Africans, Manchus, Japanese and Tibetans are all the subject of racial tension in China so it is naive to think that multiculturalism would survive very long under a communist government, and still flourish economically.

Besides, it is the issue of immigration that the OP is discussing, the issue of overcrowding by a non-native population.
