If you book in advance you can get to London for £8-£10 (travel late at night, book a month in advance). It's 2.5 - 3hours to Kings Cross

THanks..
Booking in advance means how early? Two weeks?

I've got a letter in the post today saying I've received an offer. Haven't had confirmation from UCAS though. Did you guys apply for general engineering or did you specify? My personal statement was geared towards mechanical and my AES says "H300 Mechanical Engineering" although am I right in think you don't have to specialise until your 3rd year? All the best of luck with your exams too!!

mine is h100 i think and yeah just general, i didnt specify  hopefully we all get our grades (mines AAA, yours?), though im going to fail my mocks next week.. eek. ah well.

Congrats on your offer. :smile:My offer was for general engineering but I think you are right and you don't need to specialise until 3rd year. My ps was geared to mechanical engineering but I applied to 3 unis for general engineering (with french) - Durham, Warwick and Cambridge and 2 for mech engineering - Edinburgh and Sheffield. Just waiting for Edinburgh now!!

Still got 2 exams left this month :frown:
Hope you get the results you need.
Does anybody know when I should know the decision by?

I just want to know now!
GOT MY OFFER THROUGH ON UCAS:smile:

Asking for 37 IB points, which I feel is doable. Still no idea what college, but got my fingers crossed for Grey!

Ha. Right now, I'd say my chances of firming Durham are about 80%, even with a King's offer.

The only other competition would be King's College London (about as different a place as you could find, but good for law, apparently), and they've been in touch with me, so they may well make me an offer.

There would be many practical advantages to staying in London (financially and otherwise) for me, but I am ready for a change, and going to Durham would be more of an experience than King's, no doubt. It's a really nice place and certainly being interviewed at Oxford gave me a taste for the idea of studying in a more quiet, traditional place than London. The hustle and bustle of London can be distracting. Especially since I've already got friends here etc.

Plus, I've got family ties to the north-east, and Durham is basically my home town.

FWIW, I think that Durham is the better law school--both academically and career-wise. Research--it places higher in the RAE. Career--it has more recruiting events than KCL and the MC has more on campus visits.

But I agree with everything you said. If I get an offer from LSE, I'll probably firm Durham over them for the reasons you mentioned with regards to something more traditional.
 haha.. thank you! My fingers are permanently crossed!

Just to reassure you slightly, I also applied on 14th Oct for Law but didn't do my LNAT until 13th Dec and heard that my app went to a college today, so you shouldn't be waiting too long to hear something! Good Luck

Congratulations!!!!
haha.. thanks, that is reassuring  Well Done though... do you think you will firm it or is there somewhere else you prefer?

Which college did you go for? I'm sure it'll be worth the wait if you get an offer

I heard reasonably soon, got an offer for engineering and I've been accepted at Collingwood. I think I'm lucky that engineering isn't majorly competitive

Applied for Hatfield.. but at this point, I really don't care

Well done... thats really great :biggrin: Is Durham your first choice?
I still haven't heard. I want to know-and hope that it's a yes! I don't even care what college now!

Thanks  yeah i'm sure you'll hear soon! Yeah if i get an offer definately, loved Durham and the collegiate system. However, I'm also applying to Trinity College Dublin so an offer from there plus free fees may slightly tilt that but yeah will most likely firm Durham. Are you waiting on any other unis?

I know there's lawyers at respected firms from both, but yes, in the latest tables Durham is higher. Not that I think they're worth that much. And I think there is something to be said for following your heart in these things, being comfortable in your surroundings is a good thing to have when doing something as intense as a law degree, surely.

I got my official offer letter from St. John's today. So will be heading up there in March, to have a look around.
