I always felt a bit silly not knowing. That offer seems very high, but maybe it's because it's spread out over more subjects? I wonder are the four A Level subjects taught at a similar intensity to your seven... It's all very interesting! Where abouts in Ireland are you from? :smile:

Your welcome. Yeah I know what you mean,maths is counted as my seventh subject,I don't study it at higher level,most people don't here. So the other six will be the ones for my final exams. I know almost for definite they're not,since say english is mandatory here it couldn't be as specific as english lit because it's optional under your system. I'm quite envious of your system,it doesn't appear as rigid and you can take the subjects you've a real interest in. I'm from Munster specifically Limerick. Ever been? :smile:

I've not been on TSR since I got my offer but it's A*AA with at least an A in History to study History at Gonville and Caius. I originally got pooled by Caius and then they made me an offer which was a nice surprise :smile:

Any more people with Caius offers?

I would go for the gap year - perhaps even find an industrial placement and then go to Cambridge. At 18 you will be able to go everywhere without any age issues and generally for engineering they like you more mature.

PS I have an offer for engineering but I need the A* in FM.
I am also half greek.(I think you are greek but may be wrong)

My dad is greek (from Drama) and went to an english uni. I was born in Thessaloniki.

Queens is a really beautiful college. I visited Imperial on an open day but I'm not really a city girl. Cambridge is big enough for me.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is Development Studies? What are you studying the development of? I mean, it could be anything from children to third-world countries, the title doesn't give anything away :tongue:

I think that's brilliant though, in that you have knowledge then in a little bit of everything. For example, I can barely even turn on a calculator, never mind tackle mechanics, trig and all those other difficult things - all my subjects are essay based humanities. So I have only up until GCSE level in anything maths-y or science-y, but I think that leaves me very unrounded. So I think you're lucky to have that system :biggrin:

Sorry, I'm thinking of applying this year for 2012 entry and my college is still really reluctant to predict A*s so I was just wondering... :smile:

Not sure whether people with AAA offers have gone through CSAS but would say that as Cambridge ask for your UMS marks they make up their own mind about whether you should have been predicted A* or not!

I was predicted A*A*A*A with the A being predicted in Further Maths with 272/300 in the AS. I have been given an A*AA offer with the A* required in FM. Hopefully they took the view that I was capable of an A*. :frown:

This year my school maths department decided not to give A* predictions in FM as no one achieved one last year.

I'm one of the AAA people and the reason that there are no shiny stars next to my requirements is that I'm a Scottish applicant so that's Advanced Highers - A* doesn't exist. They won't all be Scottish, but I'm guessing a fair few are.

Well I made an open application but once I actually went to interview and saw the college I couldn't have been happier that it was Homerton. They actually put me in the pool but fished me out again. I'm frankly concerned about whether I'll meet the conditions but I'm not going to focus on that too much,just work real hard. I got my official offer through UCAS so I'm going to reply tongiht.

Yeah I suppose in that way it's beneficial but I'm still envious :mad:

.What day was your interview? I tend to think it varies for each student,I'm not highly career-oriented but I know what I want to do,so more focused subjects would work for me. I'm not gonna use my math skills anytime soon. I've never been to N.Ireland,is it more regular to apply to Oxbridge there?

snap! AH chemistry is my one biggest worry too! especially as my teahcer's attitude towards parts of the course is 'oh, that doesn't come up very often in the exams... let's just skip to the next bit' and yeah, i agree it's a fair bit more difficult than higher, but often the title is more complex than the actual chemistry! - base induced elimination of hydrogen halides from monohalogenoalkanes anyone?? :tongue:

haha you won't need to single-handedly revive it--it can be a team effort! Anyway I've a feeling there is a pretty active community, but I'm also guessing it's probably broken up into smaller college-based communities (but I have noooo real idea), which would all probably have different LGBTQ cultures & degrees of visibility/activity. I wonder how interactive/segregated the undergrad & postgrad communities are, too?

Development Studies is basically the history, political economy, sociology &c. of developing countries. Because it's so multidisciplinary, there's lots of room for specialisation--for instance, on economic development, health, children, infrastructure, human rights, agriculture, the environment... The list goes on. It's pretty broad, but it's all about developing countries and their conditions and evolutions, and also about policy. :smile:

And Cambridge has some great heterodox people in the programme!
