I don't think you should worry about that. I got m to be 0.187 !!!
You'll lose 1 mark for accuracy though.

What did you get 1b as?
I got 0.4 but everyone seems to have got 0.08?
Did I forget to include resistance?

If you can remember question 1 (the specific values I'll go through the explanation for you
Does anyone think there'll be a cap for this paper?

I'm expecting 60/75 to be an A, 66/75 to be 90UMS and 72/75 to be the 100 UMS Cap?

You believe they'll be that high?
Compared to previous exams:

Jan-10 67 60 53 46 39 33 27
Jun-10 75 68 61 54 47 40 34

Have to say this exam was as tough as Jan 2010
So I think 90 UMS will be closer to 60 than 65. An A will be 55

I'm inclined to agree.
I don't remember who said earlier on but this paper was full of big unguided questions. Most of past papers are filed nicely, with questions separated into three parts. This paper was not like that. There were no "prove that m is 0.54" etc.

Plus, by the sounds of things, people found it rather hard. So that'll only drop grade boundaries.

there was the last question which asked you to prove m=4 and that there'll be a second collision and the question before that where you had to prove the displacement equation they gave, but yeh, I think you're right. I would summarise the paper is challenging, but not obsurdly difficult like te jan 2010 paper.

oh thats kinda the same situation with me, i was really hoping to get above 90 in this so i dont need to in my other FM modules in june but to be honest M2 didnt go very well..

and i really wish someone would put the mark scheme up.. does anyone know where i can get the mark scheme for this exam?

yeah and what are UMS marks? because people seem to be saying you need a certain amount of UMS marks in this paper to get an A* or an A. which is what i was asking but the other guy didnt understand.
People have published unofficial results on here so i'd just look at what the bulk of the people are agreeing with and taking that to be what the answer is. it was a bit of a weird exam though

I don't want to sound too harsh, but If you want good information then you have to ask good questions...

you asked

which made no sense what so ever, hence my response.

it did make sense im afraid. what are ums marks by the way? because people have put up the requirements for getting an A/A* regarding ums marks. which is the same thing i was asking but in percentage terms.

For A* in Maths you need:

to average 80 UMS in C1, C2, M1 and M2
to average 90 UMS in C3 and C4

For A* in Further Maths you need:

to average 90 UMS in any three of FP1, FP2, M3, S1, S2, and S3
and to average 80 UMS in the remaning 3 papers of which you did achieve over 90

Let me know if you need further explanation

People how about we just relax and wait for Arsey to solve all of our problems....

He'll attach an unofficial mark scheme for the paper and having done M2 mark schemes for a long time, he'll know what the grade boundaries should be

erm no...

Original post by Jkin

What percentage is needed to get an A*? I know in other exams, like C3 and C4, you need 90% or higher. Is it the same with M2? Or are the grade boundaries slightly lower?

Asking what the grade boundary for an A* in the M2 module is really does not make sense...
Are what grade boundaries slightly lower than what?
nonsense, as already stated..
have a good evening.

False,

A* in Fm is Averaging 90%+ out of two modules from FP2, FP3, M2,S2,D2 etc, and an average of 80% out of six modules including FP1,FP2 AND/OR FP3, AND applied as/a2 modules.

Do you even do further maths?

This.

In my A-Levels, i'm doing C1, C2, C3, C4, FP1, FP2, S1, S2, D1, M1, M2 and M3. For my Maths A-Level, i'm putting in C1-4, S1 and D1. To get an A* in this, my combined UMS for all modules has to be 480 or greater AND I need to get 180 UMS for C3 and C4 combined. For further maths, i'm putting in all the other modules. Here (FP1, FP1, S2, M1, M2, M3), I need a combined UMS of 480 or greater and from 3 of the units (either FP2, S2, M2 or M3) I need to get a combined UMS mark of 270/300.

Yep. IIRC, I got 0.08 or something too. What you do is you find the force using Power/speed [the new ones given before the question, but after part a)]. Then you take away the resistance, and then you divide by the mass. So I think what you said you went wrong.

Directly from the The Student Room Page regarding the A*

For the Further Maths A-level (and presumably the Additional Further Maths A-level too), the best three A2 units will contribute to the A* grade conditions. This means that of the 6 units in Further Maths, the top 3 A2 units must have a total of over 270 UMS (i.e. an average of over 90%). A2 units for Further Maths are classed as FP2 and above, and all the 2nd applied units and above (i.e. M2, M3, M4, M5, S2, S3, S4, D2, DC, NC, DE). FP1 is classed as an AS unit and therefore wouldn't count towards the 270 UMS required for the A*.

It specifically says 3, THREE. I do Further Maths - so please check your own facts before charging upon others.
Muggle.

Yes it is any 3 A2 modules, you stated FP1, S1 and D1 above which arent A2 modules. the 90% average needs to be done in any of FP2,FP3, M2, M3, S2, S2 D2 etc.

YAY!

I got 4/45 ms^-2 for that question, or 0.089 xD.

well basically, to get an A* in further maths you need to average 90% in three A2 maths modules and because M2 is an A2 module, it contributes to one of your modules (if you get an 90 of above in it), so you would only have to then get 90 or more in another 2 A2 module. If that makes sense?

In fact if your still confused have a look at this:
