Forgive me for expecting good behaviour from processionals many youngsters will idolise. There was the peacemaker incident, the cabbie bust up and the sleeping with the lap dancer while being in a relationship of his girlfriend of 3 years. Also I have a few friends who know some of the Arsenal youngsters including Jack who have told me a few stories as well as recordings on their phones. Wilshire is no angel but that frustrates me, he looks shy, innocent and humble with immense ability. I want him to grow to be a character like Xavi but this blip in his personal life I personally find irritating. I know most people don't give a monkeys what a player does in his personal life so long as they play well but I'm not like that.

You seem to forget that 95% of footballers are dicks.

Oh man I'm so happy we managed the result. Wilshere's performance was just immense... he looked technically superior (or at least equal) to Xavi and Iniesta... Guardiola said that all our play goes through Cesc and Nasri but I think he was underestimating just how good Wilshere is.

I thought Koscielny was really excellent, too.

I'm sure Xavi did play some excellent passes -- there's nobody better than him in the world at doing that. But given that Song was largely ineffective after he got his yellow booking and Fabregas was clearly not as his best, Wilshere was the only one that was trying to drive the team forward. It's not about making the final ball or how many passes you make, it's about the overall influence you have on the game. There were some flashes of genius -- I remember one in particular when he was getting the ball back from Arshavin in a very congested area, and with a drop of the shoulder he was away from Xavi, played a one-two with Van Persie and had a shot on goal....it doesn't sound like much reading it back, but to have the awareness and ability to turn away in that position was brilliant (it was a few mins before Van Persie scored iirc). Solid in the first half but his second half he was oustanding, there's no doubt about it. Nobody's suggesting he is the finished article and definitely needs to improve in some areas (his finishing, mainly) but the fact that pretty much everyone -- Arsenal fans or not -- were very impressed is no mystery.

Such a composed finish by Arshavin, like he used to pull off all the time. The ITV commentator (Tysley or Champion, they merge into one) described it as a 'Barcelona goal', clearly hasn't watched Arsenal play all that much in the last decade..

I know, and Arsene's ability to bring through young talent on the cheap in recent years has been excellent but not superior to La Masia. Barca have made expensive mistakes in the transfer market in the past few seasons but that lineup doesn't represent any of it (though I do have no idea how much they spent on Adriano and what value for money he represents).
