Hey everyone, I'm assuming you don’t have to apply to the universities as well for the MSc and you just apply to the jobs, does anyone know?

Also any idea how I find out which jobs would do the MSc at which university? I have a list of the universities that do the courses so I could guess but it would be good to know for sure.

Thanks
Hi,

I am still working on my supporting statement section for the training scheme applications. I will be applying for audiology and clinical biochemistry posts.

Would anyone here be willing to look over what I wrote once I have finished, as it is always good to have someone check over it and give their opinion.

I'll gladly look it over for you if it will help. We can check over eachothers if you'd like. Always good to get a couple of new thoughts.

That would be great. Thanks. I will probably finish it by this friday, so I can send it to you then.
Hi all, I was wondering if there is anyone on here who has actually started a clinical microbiology position that could give me a bit of info on what the job is like day to day etc. And possibly offer some insight into where is good to take up a micro position. I'm not from England so I can't really go by experience.

Cheers

Hi Topazx,
I am planning to apply for the reproductive science placements also, do you mind me asking which embryology lab you are visiting? Is it one of the labs offering the training? Just curious!
Thanks!

I visited yesterday, it was amazing! It was the IVF department in Hull. I had emailed asking to visit the Leeds unit but I was told to get back in touch with them once the post was formally advertised. Even though Hull isnt offering a placement its near where I live so though I would visit there in the mean time. The Leeds post still isnt up on the jobs website so considering emailing again, its one of my four choices but if its not available then I would like to know as then iIwill obviously pick another one!

Whats your experience and what posts are you hoping to apply for?

Hi all,

Who is applying for medical physics or clinical engineering? It would be nice to get to know a few people on here prior to the interviews, and let me know if your visiting any open days , oh and GOOD LUCK to everyone who is applying to the various other posts...

i'm applying for some of the clinical engineering ones.
but unless i've missed them, I cant find a couple of the london ones yet at st georges (+other hosps) that was listed on the original list on nhs careers.

also, when i emailed the salisbury contact he said they were only recruiting electronic engineers this year, which is a bit poo!
hi everyone! Ive been reading this thread for a long time now and thought i'd finally join and ask my questions. I graduated with a 2.1 in Biochemistry last year and am hoping to apply for one of the postions in London. I'd prefer it to be in Clinical Biochemistry but would also be interested in Immunology.

I spoke to someone at Barts and the London who told me that the Haematology posts have been cancelled this year! Also an email from St Georges said the posts there are 'under review' which doesn't sound very good! I've been waiting a whole year for this and now am so dissapointed that most of the posts in London are still not up on the website!

Can anyone please let me know if they have any info on any of the London posts!

Hi  I'm also applying for the clinical eng posts, and so few are up :frown: I've just got an e-mail from London North Consortium saying that they're only recruiting Medical Physics pathway this year due to cuts in funding.. So there are like 3 positions available nationwide (for rehab eng specialisation) - not very optimistic! :frown: are you planning on attending any of the open days? Tomorrow is London North's, but as they have no clinical engineering vacancies I'm not planning to attend.. :s-smilie:

I'm wanting to stay up north really, i've emailed about the Manchester and Liverpool places and apparently Manchester hasn't got funding..I'm not sure if they are waiting for it or just not doing it at all this year.. :s Apparently they have confirmed funding for Liverpool, but that is not up yet either!

I'm in the middle of an MSc and have been to an andrology lab in Southampton before but thats about it really.

I hope they put the rest of the posts up soon! How are you doing with your supporting statement?

Im the same, would like to stay up north if I can but am aware that the course is so competitive so the chances of getting on it are so slim! Annoying to hear about manchester as was thinking of applying for that one!

What is your Msc in? Ive just started my personal statement tonight, hoping to get it done by this weekend so I can get applying next week. The personal spec is so long tho, Im going through try to cross off what I have met but still feel like I have loads to cover. There isnt a word limit on it is there? Otherwise Im buggered!haha!
Hi,

Has anyone else found any more information about the microbiology placements? I think I found the Manchester place by looking by location rather than through the trainee healthcare scientist button, but it seems to be specialising in mycology which is a shame because i'm awful at that! I'm slightly worried about the lack of funding that seems to be happening as it will cut the number of places down from 8 to 1!
cheers all and good luck

I don't understand why the Manchester place is so hard to find on that nhs jobs website! Yeah the Manchester one is just mycology, which kind of defeats the purpose of rotations and deciding what you like best really. The other two are still not up but I emailed Royal Free Hampstead who had shown a post for 4 places and they said they were in the dark as to when the posts would be up. So hopefully they will be up at some point and it's just some sort of glitch. Not sure about the Oxford Radcliffe places though because no one there has gotten back to me at all. I wish I had more info. I will be gutted if they decide to not put up places because it's already happened to me this year in Scotland where there is usually only one place a year anyway.

If I hear any more I'll let you know.

Cheers for that, I've also given Oxford an email, maybe if more than one of us does it then they may realise that they need to respond! That one is more annoying as the other Oxford Radcliffe places are up! maybe they hit the wrong button or something! Thats a relief about the London one though, once you've done your supporting information the job appplication is relatively simple! Are you going to the open day in Northampton? Just checked train times and I'll have to leave here (I'm in Aberystwyth) at 7.30 so it's going to be a lonnnngg day :P

I'm applying for medical physics, me.
Hey fellow Audiology applicants. I just got some new information about the scheme and thought I would share as there isn't a lot of information about the timetable.

In the three years, we study at both university doing a Specialised MSc in Audiology and Neurophysiology (different to the MSc Audiology!) and on the placement scheme.

According to the diagram I got sent below, we do a 3 month rotation in each of the 4 areas (audiology, neurophysiology, vision science and clinical assessment) which takes a year and then specialise in one area for the remaining time after some elective training.

The post comes with a place on the new masters course so you don't need to apply separately.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your applications.

Jenny

Kings got back to me saying the open day will be arranged for shortlisted candidates prior to interview.. Planning to go to Oxford's one on Friday and St Georges next week, so will probably see you there!

Yeah I know what you mean, feel like mine is a mess and i'm not sure how to cover everything in a nice simple order..! I hope there's no word count too!

My Msc is in reproduction & development so its related, but unfortunately i still feel like im lacking in practical skills because it was mainly theoretical..well fingers crossed anyway! what is your experience and background?

Good luck!
