Do we scan and upload the transcript and permission letter or do we send it off by post? You'd think an online application would be fairly straightforward.

I'm considering Medical Sciences with Management. My intercalated choices are completely random - neuroscience, anatomy and now management... I'm not too fussed, I really wouldn't mind doing any of them. I just want to keep my options open.

Which one are you going for? Oh and how far have you got with the personal statement? I'm just going to bash out something completely random and hope I don't get laughed at! :tongue:

I'm applying for Surgery & Anaesthesia. Tis gonna be a very last minute application cos of exams this fortnight, but hopefully we shall know about Kings by then (tempted to not apply for Impy if I get a King's offer - gift horse an all that...)

What do most people use to prepare for clinical skills/OSCEs? any useful books/websites that are particularly helpful? i have macleod's, but i'd prefer a smaller book or website that just had a list of signs and symptoms for each body system along with a video demonstrating how to do the examination. many thanks!

Good luck with your exams! I had prepped myself all week to hear back yesterday. I don't think I'll apply too if King's make me an offer but by the time King's get back to us, the deadline for Imperial will be very close anyway so I might just send it off regardless. I have no idea what to expect. I just hope I intercalate after this year.

I'm sort of glad they're all staggered, cos then I'll know whether I've got into Kings before I have my Barts interview, and hopefully get a decision from Barts before anything comes back from Imperial. Although if I have to trek down to London more than twice this holiday, I'm just gonna become an Underground tramp til all the decisions are done :rolleyes:

I downloaded Swansea medical school examination podcasts. I've only looked at the knee so far, so not entirely sure how great they are :dontknow:

they don't look too bad. there's no commentary for the examination videos though, and the doctor doesn't explain what he's doing so i guess it's only helpful if you already know the examinations well and want a recap.

It's interesting just how different our courses are. I don't think I'll be doing much patient examination until first year clinics!

When's that?

So far we've been taught at our GPs hip, knee and ankle, and then we had a lecture/quick demonstration on the upper limb, and I'm assuming we'll be taught the shoulder at the GPs on Thursday. So far I've examined two people's knees and one person's hips (quite badly :colondollar:

Hah, sorry! Quite forgot that some unis don't even have that divide. It's third year of medical school, but it'll be in three years for me due to iBSc.

We've not been taught much, clinical skills wise. We've had one session that lasted an hour or two and then an integrated 'day' on it. We've done measuring blood pressure manually, basic CPR (I think we have a first aid course at the end of the year), heat sounds and we did have a patient who came in and we did a bit of a thorax examination. Oh, and hand washing!

We haven't even looked at the limbs yet (next year, I believe). What you're doing sounds very cool though, hope you're enjoying it!

I was thinking it was "clinics" in first year, so some period of practical training towards the end of first year :p:

Yeah we've done a fair amount - and I think our GP tutor is planning on teaching us suturing on pigs ears at some point this year (he also has a minor surgery clinic) which will be awesome :awesome:

Our topic for the rest of the year is locomotion, next year we have blood and skin, circulation and respiration. I think year 2 is going to be the most interesting imo, but we shall have to see how it pans out :wink:

And yeah, I'm loving it, and although I'm assuming you're enjoying it, I really wouldn't want the non-clinics/clinics divide :p:

4 written exams this week and I feel like I know nothing. Still 21 lectures to cover for the first time (most of them are from 18 months ago, so I don't remember anything about the topics) :facepalm:

Caffeine/sugar. Set half an hour to look over each lecture and then go back over. Concentrate on themes. Write out important points - no more than 2 pages and review before sleeping. Can you tell I do this frequently?

Need to start revising.

Am going to turn over a new leaf - less alcohol, less socialising, more studying.
Although I said this on Tuesday and so far it's not gone too well. BUT THIS WEEK. yes.
And also when I have a 'night off' hanging out with people don't just watch grey's anatomy or go to bed at 7pm ( :colondollar:

) but DO WORK.

Must make some kind of plan tomorrow.

I'm back motherbitches. Took some time off to get coursework done. Still haven't done all of it, but I've got today, tomorrow and Tuesday so it's all good.
