Girls: Would you consider someone who plays computer games immature?

I'm 21, almost 22. I have a couple of mates who spend most of their weekends playing computer games. Age of Empires, DOTA, COD, they are constantly doing that and discussing them. I just think, isn't that a bit immature? I mean, I used to play computer games myself till I was around 18 but now I have better things to do. I do occasionally play a bit of FIFA Manager but not other computer games and don't spend my time debating which military strategy to use or boasting about the superiority of my tanks.

Games are not immature.

Playing them all the time and talking about them is just sad.

Wat. If they spent all their time debatin' strategies and tanx outwith their group of gamer friends, I would think they were boring or socially challenged. If they just played a lot of computer games, I would think they liked computer games. Immaturity's about other stuff. Anyway why you care who plays so many computer games, if you have all those better things to do??

Some could argue that it's simply 'just another hobby', though what is obvious with videogames is that they aren't 'real'. Nothing tangible to show, achieve or get involved with. It's simply sapping time away with nothing.

This always influences what you would talk about. Someone who played videogames frequently would be limited to talking about said games, and the only people who could reciprocate such conversation would be fellow players. It's not like reading a novel, playing a sport or enjoying a hobby, etc.

However, if the other party played games too, then none of this would be an issue.

One of my best friends is doing an internship and has only Sundays off. He spends each Sunday playing computer games instead of socializing in any other way.

You seem to be very focused on what your friends do with their life instead of living your own. I think you're more immature than somebody who jerks off to WoW porn.

haha, my bro, he's 32 years old , he still plays that **** . In my opinion, i am ok with those kind of people as long as they can balance it with their social life, but if they shut themself in the room and spend all day playing COD, they are definitely immature. On the other hand,I think the guys can be obsessed with computer games like girls cant stop talking about the shoes or make up =) right ??? l
I cant stop buying Mac lipstick either !!!! : P

That doesn't seem overly surprising to me. Maybe he's just exhausted from a 6 day week and wants to relax doing something he likes, but requires little physical effort?

Meh, like someone else said, video games are a hobby that give very little output, but I don't see how it can be construed as "sad". Your title doesn't even state excessive play, or play to the point where it starts to negatively effect your life, but just playing video games in general. I mean, there's a reason why it's such a huuuuge industry.

I realise this thread was aimed at females, but expect other defensive nerds like me to comment too. :frown:
It would be slightly odd of me to look down on it, given that I'd love to play more computer games than I do - just never get around to it. Honestly that's one of the things I love about my bf, how passionate he is about games.

If that's ALL someone knows then, yeah, that's a bit bad. The only ones that bug me are the guys that play loads of sport sims. I figure they might as well be playing the sport, and I don't really want a guy who seems initially like he's into games (like me) and then suddenly! it's actually sports :frown:
I love Pokemon :frown:

It depends.
I play WoW. And so do a couple of my guy mates, (I'm the only girl). And I don't think it's immature. However, I do think playing on them all the time is immature. I work full time and have a social life, however occasionally on a night, I don't see whats wrong with playing on it for a couple of hours.
There is a limit though, playing computer games all day every day is really bad, not just for you but it just isnt healthy. My sisters bf does that, and I just don't know how you could!
But yeah, for a certain amount of time every now and again, why the hell not? It isn't immature, you just need to know the limit!

No its not immature, I like to play computer games myself
My boyfriend is 27 and a massive gamer. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. He mostly plays Eve Online and tried to get me to sign up, but my graphics card isn't good enough. As far as mmorpgs go its actually pretty sociable. Lol. He was showing off his dual monitors and I had to admit it was pretty awesome to play.

I like gaming as well, I play Age of Empires quite a lot, and GTA2. Plus Zelda and Pokemon on my DS. And I do some graphics work for a fansite, mapping a simple rpg. I'm by no means a "gamer" like him though. In fact its attractive that he has something he's so passionate about, even if I do tease him about being a huge geek =)
It's not immature; it a hobby just like any other.
I consider continual playing of runescape the truest form of maturity.
I have a full-time job and I'm studying for my degree.

Playing games is relaxing in my spare time.

I hate self-righteous people who put gaming down, claiming that all gamers are nerds and rejects.

It's simply not true.
