Best job to have at uni?

So what are the best jobs to have whilst at uni in your experience?

I'm taking about both the money side (jobs that generally tend to pay more whilst at uni) and the social/fun side about certain jobs? :smile:

Exotic Dancer, its often flexible, you can leave when you want- as who really wants a reference from a strip club, you get to work out your arms on the bars etc, you get paid alot of money and its really dark- so no one really see you.

A good bar job if you want the social side of things.
My job is good for the pay side of things, but almost impossible to get any more thanks to the ConDems.
If you're a girl a lapdancer would be great pay.

My job is in a government office, its pretty impossible to get a full time job here now, no chance of getting employed in a part time position.

At the start of the year I worked in the SU bar, it was pretty good pay and I got priority entry to events, but working until 3AM and having 9AM lectures that morning do not go well together!

I worked in uni catered hall kitchens and it was great. Uni work usually pays very well compared to private businesses, got loads of free food after each shift and short hours (5-8 weekdays, 11.45-2.15 weekends) which didn't interfere with my uni work or socialising. It was casual work too, so it turned out pretty flexible - could do more work when uni work was light and do minimal shifts during exam periods. And since it's work for uni halls, I wasn't forced to work in the holidays (although there were private functions to work if I was around).

So all in all, it was pretty much perfect for a student lifestyle.

Those who do generally work in the union (at the university bars).

There were no advertisements, so it's worth going around the halls and asking if they're looking for staff. I went to uni 05-08 though, so I'm not sure how easy it is to get a job now. They did cut the free food and the extra pay on weekends in the last months before I left, so it probably isn't quite as great a job these days, but still better than working in a high street shop.

I was the only one of my friends to have a job during uni. Others survived on loans or worked when they were home in the holidays (especially the long summer holidays). Some might've had help from their parents, but that's the kind of thing no one talks about.

Getting something related to the field you want to work in after you graduate is the best idea if possible.

Not always easy or possible though.

Nah it's not stupid :smile:

It's where you go around promoting the uni and/or the department. I showed people around campus, did presentations and visited schools.

Social Side - Work in your Uni SU

Money side - my friend does web development and gets a few thousand a month...!

bit of both - I work in retail and get a fair bit of money, just above minimum wage but i make a lot in commission, and its a massive department store so very social.
