Northumbria Early Primary Education interview

Anyone else still not heard back since interview?

I was told I'd hear back within 2 - 3 weeks with a decision, but my interview was on the 16th February now! And I know people who had their interview two weeks before me who haven't heard back either

I hate it when Uni's take the pee with a response, I know they have a lot of people to get through....but people are already applying for accommodation who have their offer and it's frustrating!

Haha it's a group interview and an individual interview. You all get different presentation titles on the day and you pick that topic by random from a set of cards. Be warned we were also required to read a page of the children's book "The Gruffelo" in a voice as though we were reading to a group of children! :L then your individual interview is just time for them to ask you a few questions to get an idea of your overall creativity and ability to think on the spot  You'll have Maths and English tests too but they're pretty straight forward! xx

Hey, I had my interview on the 9th of Feb and I still haven't heard back either! Its been almost 7 weeks now, I'm so frustrated too! I read on another thread that they told someone they would get back to all applicants by the end of March but then read somewhere else that people still have interviews with them at the end of March. I'm so confused but wich they would hurry up! Let me know if you hear anything?

Hey, my friend had her interview on the 9th Feb too and hasn't heard anything! Another of my friends has theirs on the 2nd and also hasn't heard anything :/ I know they're doing interviews until at least 8th April because I know somebody who has one then. We rang them the other week and they said it's unlikely we'll hear before the end of the March, up to mid April once all interviews have taken place. I assume that's because they don't want to give out all of their offers to the maybe people in case people in the later interviews stand out and they have no places left for them!

I just think it's annoying how they knew how many people they'd accepted to interview and roughly when the interview process would finish, yet they still gave a time scale of 2 - 3 weeks

Hi,
From what I am aware, they only do the early primary education course. I know someone who did this course and she is still qualified to teach the whole age range, she is just specialised in the early years. Northumbria do the PGCE course if you choose to do another course such as childhood studies or a normal subject such as history and you can do an extra year at uni and gain your teacher status through the PGCE. If you are looking for a general course and want to be in the north east, I know that Durham and Sunderland both do a general primary course. Hope this helped and if you need anything else just ask  xx

I totally agree. They should have given us a longer time scale so that we're not worrying about it! There's a few girls in my sixth form who have applied to the same course and they have both heard back but have been rejected so I'm trying to stay optomistic but if they're gunna reject me then I'd rather just know now :/ When was your interview? xx

My offer for Sunderland is 280 points, which is the same requirement as Northumbria only Sunderland is the whole age range and also a 4 year course  as Sophie said though even if you do specialise in Early Years, it still qualifies you to teach across the whole primary age range. Some people say that when they've asked people they say the older age is better, but when I've asked people they've actually said the Early Years is better because what you learn about the Early Years is then applied to the development throughout the whole age but I guess it's what you prefer as a whole

Mine was on the 16th! Yeah I know there were 5 of us in my class that applied for the course. 1 received an offer about 10 days after her interview [which was on the same day as mine!] another 2 people who also had their interview on the same day as me received offers for an alternative course [childhood studies] and then me and another girl who had hers the week before me are still waiting on responses :s-smilie:

It's nearly April now though, I think the last of the interviews is the 8th or the 16th, so we'll hopefully hear by the end of next month at the very latest! xx

I haven't, I want to work with the younger ones  preferably Year 1 and 2 once I'm qualified! && that's just down to experience because I've spent the past 2 years with Year 1 & 2 and it's been great! I wouldn't mind teaching 3 & 4 once qualified, but I wouldn't want to go any higher than that. Likewise I wouldn't really want to go any lower than Reception but that's just personal preference from experience.

You have a lot of time to make up your mind! Unlike me who needs to make a decision within the next few months :L preferably weeks! xx

Ah it's fine I don't mind, I like questions!

I have an offer for Sunderland Uni for 5 - 11 and a one for Leeds Trinity for 3 - 7. I'm waiting to hear back from Northumbria still because they've had a delay in TDA funding so I should hear within the next week or two  I also applied to Durham but I withdrew my offer from there as they hadn't even given me an interview after 5 months and I applied to York St John for 3 - 7 which was my 2nd choice but unfortunately I was unsuccessful :frown:

Yeah I am really gutted about York because it's where I really wanted to go to move away from home. I'll be even more gutted if I don't make it into Northumbria!
I want to do the 3 - 7 really, because I'd prefer to teach the younger ones from experience. Yeah Sunderland was a nice Uni, it sounded like a good course if it wasn't for the fact I wanted to do 3 - 7 I'd choose there  But I just applied to there as a back up in case all of my 3 -7 applications were unsuccessful or I changed my mind about the age group I wanted to teach.

I do the Society, Health and Development Diploma at the minute along with a 6 unit BTEC in Health, Social Care and the Early Years

Noooo have faith in yourself, you can always make Durham your firm but then have another good Uni as your insurance in case you don't quite make the grades  xx

Haha thanks, me too!

Yeah I enjoyed GCSE H&S....but I hate the Diploma it's just sooooo tedious at times! The only thing I really like about it is my placement, because it's flexible so I get to do a full day every week, but I also do extra days if I want to for things like Sports day and stuff!

Ah don't worry about it honestly, everyone always says that the personal statement was the hardest but I personally found it the easiest! It was just the amount of times you had to edit it to correct grammar etc so that it was perfect. You should get a talk from your school when you need to begin to write it. When is it that you have to start writing it by, I can't even remember when I did mine now! But if you're still stuck I don't mind sending you mine if you'd like some extra ideas to see how I set it out  xx

Ah it's fine once you start writing it, I had an example from someone in the year above and then I just went for it! My teachers helped me along the way though with extra ideas and stuff

Yeah that's fine, I'll try and inbox you mine now if it'll fit  I feel like a badass for taking this thread completely off topic too :biggrin: xx
