I love the UK, and it's a great place to live. But there are differences that matter to most people. Like maternity and paternity leave, welfare, health care and so on. How 'stimulating' it is comes down to your personal opinion.

We obviously enjoy different things in life. I get up in the morning and think, yeah, today I'm going to visit one of the most famous, exciting and cutting edge cities in the world, gonna listen to some of the greatest thinkers on the planet, then watch one of the biggest and best sporting events, then go and see the most famous musicians, go to enjoy some of the best cuisine in the world at a reasonable price, and drink world class beverages at a cost that isn't an unreasonably high proportion of my monthly income. Could this get any better?

Sorry but that's just so totally removed from how the average Briton lives. Maybe if you are a young upper-middle class professional in London, but the majority of us Brits live like **** compared to our continental and Scandinavian counterparts. Also what you said could easily apply to Stockholm or Oslo (apart from the reasonably priced booze) and those cities are much cleaner and safer.

And although I think Norway is culturaly mediocre, it's still a far better place than the UK. People are safer, more educated, healthier, less violent and far more attractive. I accepted our social malaise years ago mate, and let me tell you, it was liberating.

There is more violent crime in France than in most Western European countries, the UK being a large exception. It's still a very safe country overall though, and probably the best country in the world.

You have gone from Europe to Western Europe Europe wide I doubt we do, Western Europe that is debatable. Unlike Britain we have guns so there is a higher chance of it being more violent.

I meant Western Europe from the start, I'm mostly referring to the social situation in parisian and marseille banlieues. Britain has much more violence than France though.

The majority of Brits don't live like crap, what a load of rubbish. Current global financial crisis nonewithstanding, the majority of Brits have a perfectly acceptable standard of living. Try living in Libya.

So why say Europe? the banlieues near Paris are mainly filled with immigrants or gangs, Sarkozy hasn't really got rid of them or put money into the area to help easy tensions he failed in that area and marseille isn't even French anymore it is just immigrants so meh.

Yeah there are, but you get these in any major European city (maybe not sports clubs, but that's no where near as important as you are making out.) And I'm not being funny but I've found almost any urban area in the UK north of sheffield (and a great deal south) to be pretty dire, frankly.



It's all relative, I wasn't thinking about Libya (one of of the most developed North African countries, why did you choose it? The recent troubles?) I was thinking about Western Europe. We work excessive hours with short breaks, eat crap food, have tiny houses, **** weather, ugly dirty towns, **** overpriced public transport, **** roads, boring countryside, fat uneducated white trash everywhere - but the main thing is people's attitude towards life here, there's no sense of community or appreciation of culture, we're content with X factor, cheap larger, junkfood and not knowing our neighbours name. It's disgraceful.

Actually I live in a nice middle class market town in a relatively big house, it's OK, but I'm well aware of how most British people live.
