No one with any shred of intelligence can truly be happy in the world we live in.

Heh, I'm not a teenager, kid. You obviously haven't experienced the real world outside your middle-class umbrella of sunshine.

I've noticed that this ranking didn't make the press, unlike last year's where we came 25th and it was plastered across the tabloids. I don't trust Quality of Life surveys, and would still feel that I live in one of the world's best countries regardless of what it said, but what do you think of the findings?

By the way, when I say we came fourth, I meant according to the final score in the table where several countries achieved the same.

It's probably been said anyway, but we're joint 7th, not 4th :s-smilie:

What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

You don't remember posting that? you need to lay off the drugs dude.

Well, you have. And thanks.

You do realise you can go to America once and stay their for as long a period as your visa permits you too right? The fact I had family there to support me meant I could apply to stay there longer. Still, i've only been once to Las Vegas and cannot comment on America on the whole as the country varies massively. The reason I couldn't comment on the transport system is because the system in Vegas will be different to the system in New York which in turn will be different to the system in Michigan or any other state.

Of course, it's just a strange use of language. I imagine in an arguement about the USA where we are trying to show off who knows more, you would have originally said "I went there for a year" instead of "I went there once" - one obviously gives you more authority than the other, even if they are congruent .

Original post by AreYouDizzeeBlud_x
No they do not include rapes. I suggest you ask the ONS. Wow, you resort to insults rather than come up with a logical explanation for your argument.

I'm 100% certain that sexual offences are included as a violent crime in most statistics comparing leves of violent crime between countries, for example Eurostat. And I have given a logical explanation to my arguement, In Britain, an affray is considered a violent crime, while in many other countries (generally non-European) it will only be logged if a person is physically injured. I'm not trying to say Britain isn't violent, but if you think the USA is safer you are quite deluded - go to the South Bronx or any deprived area in any US city, it puts the roughest areas of London to shame, there may be much more drunken brawling in the UK but you are far more likely to get mudered or raped in the USA, and many, many burglaries and muggings and assualts go unreported because they are just an everyday thing for America's urban poor, and the these communities don't trust the police to do anything about it. But I agree, Britain is a very unsafe place too and shoud get a low rating, but you are deluded if you think the USA is a safe country.

And I turned to insuts becasue you insuted me.

So you'd rather put a price on peoples lives? To save money, lets just let out prisoners early and therefore put more people at risk. You're view fails completely. The way you present your argument is if you would rather the government save money by releasing prisoners because keeping them in prison is too costly. This must be one of the only countries in the world where a football related assault can actually lead to you being imprisoned longer than someone who has raped another human being.

You totally do not understand anything I wrote, really not worth responding too if you insist on being so obtuse, because we aren't on the same page. And can I see some evidence for this football related assault (as opposed to normal assualt?) vs rape thingy please.

You're getting your information from biased media outlets and not statistical data taken by legitimate agencies. The report you provided had about as much truth in it than anything that has ever been presented in the Daily Mail. News outlets over exaggerate things to sell papers, its their job. You're pretty daft if you believe anything CBS will tell you as they are disregarded totally by many Americans, just as Fox is.

It probably is exaggerated, I'm not taking it as blunt fact, but you cannot disregard it based entirely on the source, this is called argumentum ad hominem.

Its very simple. My auntie has been through it all. How come then she is not in a top job yet manages fine even with a medical condition? Explain that to me please. Yes I agree the system is based on profit not health, just as car insurance companies base their quotes on profit and not the well being of the people within the car, or the car itself. How is it inefficient? The people who are willing to pay for the service get excellent treatment, i've witnessed it. Here you could have to wait hours to go to surgery and then brought back from theatre as something has held them up. In the USA everything in the majority of cases runs smoothly as you pay for what you get.

You pay monthly premiums, you also pay an up-front part of the total cost (a ‘’deductible’’), or a part of the cost of every procedure (a copayment), There's a lot more to it then that too, different provider networks, rembursment rates etc. you don't know enough about the subject really.

Have you ever been to the US to comment as most people over here who haven't been there haven't a clue what its actually like. Its the same with most places because the biased media in this pathetic **** hole of a country work with the government and want to keep everyone here. Look at the bad press that countries like Bulgaria and Russia get for Mafia yet when you actually go there, its nothing at all like that. Its just all media generated nonsense to sell papers and keep turning over profit yet some idiots in this country actually belief the fallacies that are printed in them.

As I said before I spent a month in NYC and a month travelling around the East Coast and Midwest, it's a good country in some ways and I don't dislike Americans, but it is not a great place to live. I think we are in agreement about the UK being ****, but I do not believe the media give a bias positive impression (read the Daily Mail recently?) or work with the government. And God, if you think Russia is a good country to be in right now, you really do know nothing.

No I never, I did it of my own accord.

Fair enough but I did not state the duration I stayed so you did make an assumption there.

But I agree, Britain is a very unsafe place too and shoud get a low rating, but you are deluded if you think the USA is a safe country.

The USA is not a safe country but it is safer than the UK for sure. I rarely saw any incidents in Vegas, and at most it would be an altercation between two early 20 year old's trying to square up to each other because they had one too many drinks. Over here I've seen old women have their hang bags snatched, a mate of mine stabbed and fights happen almost every weekend in Cardiff City centre. Now compare that to a city like Vegas and its shocking. You also hear of much more violent crimes in the news here. In Vegas, most crime was associated with people who were drunk and disorderly and disobeying orders to go home because they wanted to spend more money in the casino's and stay out getting drunk. Now, as i've said, I can't comment on other parts of the US as I haven't been there and im willing to accept the fact that different areas and different states are completely different but in my honest opinion, Vegas is a far safer place to be than most places in Britain, which is shocking given the size and the amount of people there on a daily basis. Nevermind how busy it still is in the early hours of the morning. Also, rapes are not included in the ONS statistics. A top police officer came out in the media and stated they were farcical and didn't show a true reflection of criminal activity in the UK because they never included such things.

And I turned to insuts becasue you insuted me.

A football related assault will lead to a longer jail sentence than a normal common assault in the UK, I can assure you of that. A number of Cardiff City fans have recently been sent down for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and just caught on CCTV (no violence) and have received between 9 months and 4 years between them plus bans from all grounds in the UK, some of whom have 7 year bans which start once they are released and not immediately. I know them as well so its not lies either as some of their mates sit near me at the stadium. Then you have rapists getting 3 year sentences who will be out in 1 and half with good behaviour.

It probably is exaggerated, I'm not taking it as blunt fact, but you cannot disregard it based entirely on the source, this is called argumentum ad hominem.

Any biased media outlet is not worth anything. You do not want exaggerated or biased news, you want factual news based on reality.

You pay monthly premiums, you also pay an up-front part of the total cost (a ‘’deductible’’), or a part of the cost of every procedure (a copayment), There's a lot more to it then that too, different provider networks, rembursment rates etc. you don't know enough about the subject really.

I know a lot about the system. It could be different in different parts of the US, as stated before. Nevada State may have completely different ways of doing things than others which is quite possible.

Russia is a decent country to live in, if you live in the cities where growth is occurring. Just as Bulgaria is if you live in Varna or Sunny Beach. My parents have a house there. You often see young women walking home at early hours of the morning without any issues. Over here they'd be getting propositions thrown at them by drunken lads asking if they fancy a shag etc. It doesn't happen there and thats why over here much more women carry rape alarms than in most other nations due to fear and intimidation. They invest far more into infrastructure due to EU funding. The only thing wrong is the political system which we all know is corrupt and mafia run. However, the UK's government is corrupt and they constantly use legal loopholes themselves to swindle tax payments and take backhanders. Anyone who thinks otherwise is extremely naive. All 3 major political groups in the last year have bare faced lied to the public so why anyone should take on board what they say at face value is beyond me, nevermind behind closed doors.

You're clearly not better in your use of grammar and making complete and understandable sentences.

A capital letter wouldn't go a miss. Neither would a full stop when you finish a sentence.

I'm also sure that was meant to be 'the truth hurts' as well.

You've clearly screwed the English language up. Congratulations on that!

Says the one with a hugely inflated egotistical view of their own country.

No one cares.

Every country has good points, as well as bad points.

If you're so good at everything how come you lost in Vietnam then?
