I got 12 A*s, GCSEs really aren't that tough though, just a question of a bit of natural ability and then cramming before the exams

I got 11A*, only one in my year at a (relatively) top private school in Cambridge - the fact that Im on a scholarship just proves that money cant buy you achievement/hard work really!

(I understand how the two clauses there make me seem like a tw** but there ya go!)

Not on a level with anyone on this thread, but I don't think that GCSEs are as valuable an indicator of intelligence as people are making them out to be.

Put it this way. I'm currently studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics at A2 level (Maths at AS as well, but I'm not going to get into that). In all three of my A2's, I can show my knowledge of the background of the subject. Broad knowledge, not just the knowledge that Edexcel believe should be forced down my throat and the throats of my teachers. Now, the maximum I can get is an A*. But if I know enough to get an A* and more knowledge behind the subject, surely I'm smarter? I'm not sure.

A Level grades are a lot more valuable. You're specialising, you're not just remembering from a textbook (at least in my subjects), you're really learning about something you're interesting and it's your own personal choice what you study and to what extent you study it. And at the end of the day, you're studying to go onto an experience that will change your life.

And to the idiot who brought Autism into the equation, that's just a little bit offensive. Just sayin'. I assure you that Autism isn't a finite diagnosis and that many people with "Autism" are completely different.

I would imagine quite a lot of people nearly get straight A*, as it's quite easy just to drop a couple of marks in 1 exam and get (for example) 11 A* and an A. I've never actually met anyone with more A* than me (12), but this being TSR, I am fully prepared to be proven wrong :awesome:

A girl at my sixth form college has 14A* in total, although one or two of those GCSEs were taken in Year 9

I know some people who achieved Bs & Cs at GCSE level but surprisingly achieving/achieved As & A*s at A'level.

I guess everyone just took GCSEs as a joke back then (including me) but that same approach couldn't be taken into A'level as its a whole new phase.

Also, i personally don't think achieving 10 or more A* means that you are a true genius. Being a genius comes in different aspects of live. Im sure not all the famous geniuses got all As during their education life.

I don't even care that this is the internet; this actually made me cry. Do you have any idea how hurtful it is to post personal attacks when you know ****ing nothing about the person?

I am going to put this in bold, because it's important: I did not get any extra help. I'm autistic, but I was only diagnosed with autism last September, so after I'd done my GCSEs. I did not get anything extra. I didn't get a laptop, a reader, extra time, exam breaks, my own little room, anything. I actually had a panic attack in one of my exams because I find it incredibly stressful to be around 140+ other people in an enclosed area for a long period of time.

I also didn't receive any help academically. I go to a state comprehensive, and while my school is not terrible, a number of individual teachers were very poor, resulting in me having to teach myself some of my qualifications (at GCSE, mostly sciences and English; at a-level, pretty much everything). This is all my own work. It is all stuff I did myself, under my own merits. My grandma actually died the day before my maths exam, right in the middle of exam season, and I didn't even get any extra consideration because of that.

I am not ****ing showing off. I didn't get extra help, I didn't even get the amount of help that most regular people get, and I don't think mentioning your GCSE grades (especially in a thread where the OP asks if anyone got 10 A*) is that arrogant. **** you and your bull**** assumptions.

My brother's are dyslexic and therefore have problems writing legibly and coherently, but I can guarantee that they are far cleverer than many who can spell and get their thoughts down on paper.
