If you're going to use the 'monogamy is new' argument then I think you should look into it a little further. Women did not have the choice to leave a polygamous relationship without rights in the past. Your girlfriend has the choice, be honest with her. Also if you want to go back to the 'instinct' stage of this, you are a human being, you are not an animal, you are supposed to have brains that overcome instinct and allow you to be kind to other humans and understanding of their feelings.
