This has been a great thread and provided lots of info so I thought I'd sign up and take part, although I don't have much to contribute so far. I have applied for the haematology posts in Scotland, no news yet but I guess my chances are slim, has anyone else had any news for the Scottish posts? I have a degree and MSc plus 12 years experience of working in pharmaceutical research, however, no experience in the haematology or clinical field so I'm not sure how much this will help me, is anyone else in a similar position? I can't tell if this work experience will help or count against me as it isn't relevant. I'm very impatient now!

Hey I have heard back from Scotland for medical physics but I only heard on Friday. I know there are a few others on the thread still waiting to hear back for haematology in Scotland. I'm sure this is what Immuno was waiting to hear from. Best of luck!

She asked me to reply to an email she was about to send and to list my order of preference for the 3 places I've applied to, which I think is because all the places will be there on the 4th, and there are only about 7 posts nationallay so I guess they distribute the best candidates on the day to the posts.

Good luck to anyone else who hasn't heard yet and good luck to all of those going to assessment centres (except maybe slightly less the ones going to mine!!)

I also applied for haem in Scotland. But I had to rush my application (especially the statement) somewhat and didn't really expect to hear anything from them. I have a BSc in biomed sci and a MSc in med micro. I asked the contact for Edinburgh if I would be discriminated against if I applied for a haem post but have a micro MSc and work in a parasitology lab (for ten years). I was told it was no problem and I should definitely apply anyway.

My understanding of the recruitment procedure (I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong) is:

1) Does the candidate have suitable qualifications. If not the application goes in the bin. 2.2 degree? In the bin. Irrelevant degree? Bin. Just a BSc? Though to the next stage. Masters? PHD? Through to the next stage.

2) The application is then judged and scored by the person specification. You are awarded a score for each specification. E.g Ability to undertake a scientific study. It doesn't matter how you are able to demonstrate this ability - from university, research, work experience, it all counts the same. They will just give you a score for how well you fit the profile (scored 1-3 I think). They do this for each point. The person with the best score goes through.

I imagine due to the large number of applicants there will be a lot of the same scores so there might be some room to manoeuvre when selecting between the top scorers.

I get the impression from what I have learnt about this process and from people I know in the NHS that is very much a box ticking exercise. They need to be able to quantify the skills of each person so they can justify the selection. I don't think there is much room for the selectors having "a good feeling" about someone.

Anyway, that just what I've pieced together. I may be completely wrong. I'm pretty sure I didn't get though to the interviews so I probably am!

Because I tried to post about 100 times and it didn't work so then I tried to post that one and it worked....so then I tried to post again and it didn't work again :frown:

Anyway, I was just saying that I was, like many people here, still in limbo and congratulations to those who had in place interviews already.

I also just found the timetable for assessment centres, but I figure everyone's already seen that?

Hello Guys, been following this thread for a while, it is very informative.

Has anyone heard any news about the haematology or biochemistry post in london? been watching and patiently waiting but now getting worried as I have not heard any news what so ever.

I guess the arguement is that the physics/engineering assessment centres are next week and the others are the week after. However I have other job applications in process, a thesis to finish and no home shortly so it would be a lot easier in terms of planning if I could find out soon!

I got a call today inviting me to an interview in Birmingham next Thursday for medical physics. I was also asked to rank my choices from 1 to 4. Don't know why they do this.

Hi yes i've applied to haematology, immunology and H&I training. Heard nothing back from any but i've heard from numerous people scotland applications take longer...

Not got much hope tbh now but i'll wait and see.

They ask you to rank to ensure equality across the country. Basically you are given an overall score for the interviews and it is qute possible that even though you weren't ranked highest for the hospital which shortlisted you, you scored higher than anyone who was shortlisted for a different hospital which you applied for but may not have been shortlisted for. In this case they would offer you the job at the other hospital. Indeed, I believe even if you score higher for a hospital that you didnt even apply for, you will be offered the job there. This ensures the top people are taken nationwide. That's why you will only get one assessment centre for each specialism, and will be unaware which have selected your application.

Looks like all the short listed candidates for interviews for next week (clinical eng, med physics) are being called today, tomorrow. Hopefully, the rest of us, will know in the next few days...heck I applied for vascular science and those assessment centres are only for the 18/04....I hope they don't leave it this late as well.

First of all, congrats! Can I assume you were contacted by King's last week then about their open afternoon?

I was definitely told by them I have an interview (re-read the email over and over!) and that details about it would come from the West Midlands centre. It appears that they've started phonecalls to Clin Eng/Med Phys people, but I didn't hear anything today.

Do you (and others) think I should give it till end of tomorrow/Weds to get in contact with them? I think I'll have to come up the night before so will have to organise trains/place to stay etc, so it would be good to know. I really don't like nagging though!
