It's up there, but I think joint top might be pushing it.

Perhaps so...I'm just going on what I'm told (which is that it's joint top with Cambridge and Durham, although obviously there'll be differences and it's subjective).

To be honest, the whole 'over-rated/under-rated' argument is subjective and also depends on many factors. Also, some people will be better suited to (and therefore enjoy more) different universities, with different universities catering for a range of requirements depending on the course style etc. If you're happy somewhere and get a good, well respected degree, I don't feel it really matters that much.

Well, it consistently comes in the top 10 for Europe in international rankings. Bizarrely, its world ranking is often higher than its UK ranking, in some league tables.

That is only cause it has a lot of " twinning " programs in places like Malaysia, Singapore and China, where I can tell you the student quality is even less than what it is in UK.

I know I live in Msia.

Only reason why it is totally undeservedly #43 or whatever is cause these goons vote for them.

Nobody is going to tell me MU is better than St A or UCLA .

Same deal goes for Notts
This thread is still going? Why can't people just accept that different Universities have different strengths and weaknesses?

What's with all the hating?

It ain't my fault if you guys are over rated. Take a chill pill or suck a lemon or something.

Under! Especially for engineering, was top in one of the main league tables least year or the year before for aerospace engineering (we have high employment rates apparently)!

Thank you! Do you know for Maths and/or Computer Science?

Underrated : Leicester, kind of used as the 'back up' uni
Liverpool - except for the med/vet/dental schools

My entry to this thread for underrated - University of Manchester. Its UK rankings are laughable, given its international rep.

Surely using the same reasoning it could be overrated?
i think Surrey is underrated.. and Royal Holloway.

Well, in terms of the globe, yes. I'm saying that it's underrated in the UK.

KCL's Medical and health care related departments are amongst the best in the world.

If anything Bristol and Durham are over rated. But I think in recent Bristol's position on that high pedestal seems to be receeding.

I can't for the life of me figure why Durham is so highly regarded.

It's old and kind of looks like Oxford/Cambridge.

Still don't understand how people are even using reason to decide this.
I doubt very much anyone here has studied various courses at several different universities.

Thus it comes down to -
Underrated : I'ma pick the one i go to or one i want to.
Overrated: Lets hate on one of the ones close to top, such was warwick, durham, bristol etc

So.. any reasoning behind your choices? i doubt it.

Woah, i hardly hear the name of that university anywhere (apart from when i attend class) but why would you call it overrated.

It seems to pop up in rankngs and people seem to think it's decent for business. Maybe I'm a little old fashioned but I'm more the traditional universities offering the big traditional courses e.g. Medicine, Law, Economics. OK strictly speaking Imperial and LSE wouldn't fall into that category as they specialise in one area but the area they do, they excel at.

As I said before it probably is my medical bias showing as obviously I wouldn't have applied to anywhere that didn't offer my course.

However if I was to go into Business/Finance then my choices would be amongst the big guns like the Oxbridges, LSEs, UCLs, Lond Unis, Bham Uni, Warwick and Edinburgh's of the world.

I wouldn't say it was better than those (because frankly it isn't) but i wouldn't call it overrated. It excels at business (for its small size) but again those universities that you mentioned are still better.
