Focussing on AS exams for now until mid June, then UKCAT, Personal statement and EPQ will be the main focus for summer holidays.

Not yet, I'm going to do it aftr I've finished all my exams :smile:

I wouldn't compromise your AS grades for it, particularly as you can't (really) get in without the grades, but if you get a bad ukcat and play it tactically you can :smile:

I am planning on starting earlish this year. Last year I really didn't do enough prep and it was probably why I ended up with an average score which didn't do me any favours :tongue:

Im studying chemistry, biology, maths/stats and english lang+lit, thinking about dropping english next year and sticking to the 3 maths/sciency subjects :biggrin:

and i havent got a clue where to apply! :redface:

i know im definatley applying to birmingham because i qualify for their a2b scheme (btw, anyone else applying through that? :biggrin:

) and i also like the look of nottingham and southampton, but im a bit worried about the ukcat eeeeek D:

hey

i actually had my heart set on art for a while before deciding i liked science more, then it was biomedical sciences at uni for a few months, then i got into thinking that i could do medicine after i graduated, then i just thought if i'm gonna do medicine after, why don't i just do it in the first place! i definately feel in a much better place now that i know what i want to do for definate, even if it does mean i have to pay the extra tuition fees :frown:

i don't mind at all, i got A's in biology, chemistry, maths and textiles, and then a B in critical thinking.
What about you, how are you finding it? :smile:

Good luck on Birmingham, definitely not for me as I have nowhere near the 9A*s they need... I qualify for the access to Leeds scheme, so may apply there. Do you know of any other access to courses? I know Manchester has one too

yeah it's only one that you're allowed...the logic is that if you can't get into one, you can't get into the other - plus theres the whole 'rivalry' thing.

I think neonatal would break doctors' hearts so easily because (if you specialised in babies born before 24 weeks) the survival rate is so low. But it would be so amazingly rewarding, seeing the parents being able to go home with their babies would be the most beautiful thing ever!

Yes it was so sad! However lieke you said I think it would be an amazingly rewarding job. I wouldn't spend my whole career in there though, as it's supposedly one of the hardest emotionally.

Oh and just to add to what everyone else has already said, you can only apply to one course out of the two, so if you have a back up such as biomed or something it can't be for one of them if you are already applying for medicine.
