I'd rather have the Americans in Iran than Ahmedinajad, in all honesty. The USA might be nutters, but at least they're predictable nutters.

But things will change there soon. I have lots of family in Iran, go there quite a lot, and there are barely any supporters of the regime there, not even in the poor areas. The economy is getting worse by the day and people are getting even more tired of the regime.

Shirin Ebadi who was the Nobel Prize winner and one of the most prominent Iranian human rights activists and lawyers only recently said that there will be another uprising in Iran soon, it's just a matter of something sparking it all off again.

I have to say, you're username is tasty! I still have relatives there too, and it does suck. Even though my family is very comfortable there, it's plain to see there are a lot of people suffering. Of my family that stayed there, they all hate the mullahs but feel they can't do anything about it.

The difference between Egypt, Tunisia and others and Iran is actually quite simple: Food prices. The lack of food at affordable rates is actually what kicked off this entire thing in the middle east and as soon at the prices reach a crisis point in Iran, the same thing is going to happen.

(This coming from a socialist and ardent republican should tell you just how much worse than the Shah the Islamic Republic is).

Just what I've been told by an Iranian Ex-Pat at my school. :dontknow:

Not saying either of them are particularly pretty.

EDIT: His dad had taken part in the original 1979 revolution but left in the late 80s.

The Shah was basically a Hosni Mubarak type leader. A political dictator but he didn't interfere with your personal life.

The Islamic Republic...they are like the Taliban. Political dictators and authoritarians of the highest order.
