Would you be able to go out to the club and not drink?

I do that sometimes, but it's a bit boring.

Islam has many flaws that clash with modern society,
Although I understand how you feel. Im a christian and many of our beleifs have sculptured the law of modern Britain so it's not difficult to leave a Christian life and have fun.

Your religion should be apart of you, not your pupper master.

I respect all aspects of my religion and think that there aren't any flaws with it ... I also respect everyone on my uni course who obviously do things that islam doesn't accept e.g consuming alcohol, casual sex etc ... These people are even my friends along with my muslim friends as I believe when living in such a diverse society there is definitely a need to integrate ... Problem is that I respect my values and don't drink, which is much of what uni culture is about ... believe it or not my muslim friends are all out there also which leaves me standing in such an awkward position .. I mean is clubbing, boozing, casual sex etc the only thing people have in common to talk about 80% of the time... What do you do in such a situation? You obv do get an urge to go out clubbing etc but my conscious wont let me because i kow its wrong.... This thread is by no means to hate on Islam (it doesn't promote killings and terror) etc .. Its simply here to show that there are muslims who are modern and banterful just not out there drinking like the rest .. This is what I believe seperates cultural differences .... Any advice would be great  ... And btw I amn't a very religous person .. i just respect the values that i have learned from islam ...

How about hanging around with few people who are a little similar to you aswell? Im not saying leave your friends.. not at all but just so you have a common ground with people, extend your friendship group

Er, no. The whole point of being a Muslim is to believe in God and live a good life. I don't think we were blessed with our religion for the sole purpose of not clubbing.

I think you're pretty lacking in a backbone if you can't be tempted and have the strength not to give in. There's nothing wrong with temptation, it's succumbing to it that's wrong. I can quite happily be in a place where everyone's getting trashed (ok, it might get a bit tiresome after a while, drunks can be annoying when you're stone-cold sober) and have not the slightest temptation to sin myself.

Original post by loling909
Yeah you're absolutley right, and I'm happy for you to have resisted, but you do know not every single muslim in the world is like you and won't psychologically resist the temptation. Clearly if you're in an environment where everyone is enjoying themselves you would find it harder to resist. It's common. But clearly not in your case. But I do agree when you say you can only know when you have actively rejected sin, but it's best to stay away from it from the begining.

There is no set defintion of a 'Muslim' . Yh, we all believe in Allah, Muhammad, five pillars etc but when you get down to the real specifics everyone has varying opinions of what a 'Muslim' should and shouldn't do. Everything in life is subjective so you shouldn't go round preaching your opinion as if you just quoted God. Anything we do is between us an Allah and we can speak for ourselves without third party intervention. OP do what YOU want to do based on YOUR own beliefs and values. Don't let anybody TELL you what your own values should be.

Modern Muslims in the west only usually follow the dress style of Islam and that's it. They all drink, smoke drugs and have sex.

BASICALLY:

1) What is the point of going clubbing? Clubbing is about dancing to the music, grinding, drinking, getting laid, touching...right...so in my defense I believe theres no point even going there just for a laugh and don't drink, cause it's just inappropriate and non of those things are accepted in Islam.

2) Anyone who objects to this is deluded I'm sorry, you know it's wrong just admit it. I can't make it any clearer.

3) Do what you want if you think it's right to do all those things even when deep down in your heart you're just manipulating you're religion to make it an enjoyable acceptable form, at the end of the day God will judge you.

People can go clubbing without wanting to drink and get off with people, you know. I don't go to clubs, but there's nothing wrong with going to socialise with mates, drink (non-alcoholic) drinks, enjoy the music, have a dance. Drinking and being promiscuous are things almost always associated with clubbing, but they are not definite parts of it.

And your last point is an important one. Far too many fire-and-brimstone Muslims take joy in judging other Muslims who don't live by their ridiculous, strict and self-defeating rules. What an individual does, so long as he isn't hurting others, is between him and God. Only God has the right to judge, no one else.

Let's be honest, most "Christians" in this country don't follow their religion properly. Plenty of them wear the cross yet go on to have sex before marriage. How very Christian

Don't let those idiots confuse you. You're right, clubbing is not allowed because of mixing and the fact that there's alcohol around.

Ahh that old classic line  I remember a "supposed" muslim who became a porn actress who used that same pathetic line to justify her action.

I'm sorry, as soon as anybody rolls out that old chestnut that music is forbidden in Islam I stop paying attention to what they're saying, because it's absolute bull.

God blessed us with the abilities and talents to produce creative works of beauty, including music. The Prophet (pbuh) discouraged music that could lead to sin, pertaining to the pagans and their practices. Islam does not forbid music as a whole.

Tons of Muslims jump on an out-of-context quote from the Hadith and like to wail that everything's haram, instead of focusing on the Qu'ran and reading chapters in full, rather than taking little bits out of context to fit to their warped and backward ideas.

Do you think you have the right to judge an individual? Do you think that you are on a par with the Almighty?

One's actions are to be judged by God and God alone. If an individual can live with something on his conscience, it's purely between him and God whether he should receive punishment or not - no one else. To suggest anything otherwise is verging on blasphemous.
