Yes this is true. Aston University and Birmingham university are both top 20 while Birmingham city uni is bottom 20 and everyone always looks down on people that go BCU.

My brother goes to Anglia Ruskin, and Cambridge students refer to it as the Early Learning Centre

First time I've heard that!

The thing that my friend found amusing was that when he went to the station to get a train home, the sign said:

Cambridge

Home of Anglia Ruskin University

I had a teacher who went to Brookes, she had nothing positive to say about Oxford students lol.

Yes, I've heard the rivalry between Notts and Trent is pretty bad especially the abuse Notts give Trent!! There was an article about the gulf in class and prestige of the two unis a few months ago:

http://www.impactnottingham.com/2011/01/10323/

The content of this article is to with how middle class Nottingham university is! It mentions nothing about Trent University apart from the chants used at the varsity matches. Your comment makes it seem like the article actually activly discusses the difference in prestige of the two two unis.

Probably, but there was probably some truth in her statements.

On nights out in Nottingham its commonplace to hear University of Nottingham singing "What's that coming over the hill? Unemployment! Unemployment!" every time a group of Nottingham Trent students are around. They all treat Trent as a bit of a joke tbh.

Adding to that:

Your dad works for my dad, your dad works for my dad, NA NAA NAA NAA (hey!) NA NAA NAA NAA! (hey!)

and

Give me a U (U!)
Give me a U (U!)
Give me a U (U!)
What do you get?
NOTTINGHAM TRENT!!!

But yeh its horrible.. :frown:

I found on nights out girls who went to the lower ranked university (DMU) at my city were much easier to get with then ones which went to the higher ranked university (Leicester).

I like them thick and easy :awesome:

"You have reached the limit of how many posts you can rate today!"- Quality mate! Made me laugh!

I know UWE students like shouting "I'd rather be a Poly than a T***" at the Bristol students, so it works both ways.

Yeah most of the people I know at Sheffield make fun of Hallam. Although not to their faces of course (not usually anyway).

Is it true that the BCU is refered to as 'the Big Crap Uni'?
Original post by OddThings
Is that really true? I was aiming to go to Heriot Watt and have friends in Edinburgh.

No. Or at least not among the people I hang out with. I don't know many people from other unis apart from Edinburgh, but that's not intentional or because I look down on them.

It definitely works both ways in Oxford...we have separate club nights etc so there really is NO interaction...(Generalising here) Brookes think we're all posh toffs and Ox think Brookes are all thick (and the boys think the girls there are all 'easy')...The Brookes students I have met seem nice enough but I wouldn't make an effort to socialise with them, most people socialise within their own college and the societies they join...

That's what Uni of Leeds students chant at Leeds Met students especially during matches when we play each other!!

Give me a U (U!)

LEEDS MET!!!
"If you can't spell "uni" go to Trent" :awesome:

It's just banter. All of the Trent students I know are sound and they give it back just as much as they take it. A top 50 university is hardly a crap one, anyway.

I think it's universal. Like "We go somewhere you don't go! Uni! Uni!".

My friend told me Oxford students started one at Oxford Brookes students that went, "Give me a D! Give me an E! What do you get? Into Brookes!" Pretty harsh, Brookes isn't even a bad university.

So yeah, it happens quite a lot. People who care about prestige or think they're better or worse than anyone else because of something as stupid as a university need to catch a grip of themselves.
The students at York and York St John don't really interact... but that's more because they're on the other side of the city to where our campus is. I don't think there's any abuse because we're higher in the league tables than they are, except for a bit of light-hearted banter every now and then :dontknow:
