It is really disappointing...I have a BMS degree (2:2) and working as a newly qualified BMS in haematology and blood transfusion. I have applied for 4 immunology posts, 2 H&I posts, 2 haematology posts and 1 cardio vascular post. Heard nothing so far. Has anyone else heard anything who has applied for either of these posts? Looks like they are looking for higher qualifications.

Hi, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you're unlikely to be short listed for any because there is a limit of 4 apps per person (excluding scotland) the number of apps are taken into consideration when shortlisting.

Just got a call this morning inviting me to an interview for Clinical Biochemistry and have just received the email!!! Am still in shock as I had thinking about it altogether because I thought I had no chance of getting short-listed. (I only applied for the St Georges post).

That might be why you haven't heard. Plus it looks like the immunology posts were ridiculously competitive (I specialised in Immunology with a 2:1, have one published poster/abstract, four years trainee/BMS experience and am hoping for a distinction in my MSc - long as I don't screw up my project/final exams. And I've got nothing )

Did you hear anything yet then? I was atleast hoping to hear something for haematology.

And no. I'm working in Oxford Immunology tomorrow so it might be a little awkward. I'm kinda hoping the bosses aren't in so I can just ignore it.

I know, love it when the bosses are not around. By the way are you still a trainee? Would there be any future opportunities for band 5 BMS's in haem/imm where you work?

I suspect your degree might just not be good enough. Since they want at least a 2:1 and in Oxford Immunology it's 1/100 chance of getting to interview (never mind the job itself!) and apparently the competition is really carily good.

Nope. Been qualified quite a while! Immunology has no vacancies (trust me, I lost my job last September because they had nothing at all and if one came up, I can be almost certain it would be mine ). As for haem? I hated my haematology rotation and never looked back so I don't know, sorry.

I think that person had a 2:2 in their undergrad degree but also had an MSc qualification.

From what I've gathered the other people who have been short-listed for Clinical Biochem are 'GraduateSK' and 'Em-Notts', is there anyone else? When do u guys have your interviews? What kind of questions do you think they're going to ask?

But someone with a 2:2 degree got a call for medical physics...?? So how does that work?

You hated haematology because it is automated or any other reason?
