It's not that high, only 28 people (out of 150) got kicked out after winter semester, but then again more might be kicked out at the end of summer. It depends with the teacher you have. Some teachers are hardcore and if you fail the weekly tests three times, then you get put in the winter credit test, a very hard test. You fail, then you get kicked out. You have three attempts at the credit test. My anatomy teacher sets hard tests, but she allows us to retake as many times as we want. If you don't correct all of the tests by the end of winter semester, then she will put you in the credit test.

Basically, work hard and failure will never come your way :smile:

I go out once every two weeks. That's not bad considering that medicine is one of the hardest degrees to get (I think).

And I meant that 28 people in first year got kicked out after winter semester. There are about 150 English-parallel students and I'm guessing around about 150Czech-parallel students so 90% do make it to atleast summer semester.

They only kick you out for not knowing Czech at the end of year 2 before the clinical years begin at year 3 and you get three attempts at that Czech test.

The only bad points is that it's quite expensive (can't quite remember off the top of my head) but my dad knows doctors in london hospitals and they're impressed at the level of knowledge that fy1s from Prague have and i myself know several people who are going into specialist and even consultant training who have graduated from Prague so dont worry about your uni affecting your status if you want to work back in the UK again.

If you have anymore questions then fire away, but bear in mind i'm only a first year student, I don't have the answers to everything, yet...

But if you're doing your A2s and you think you can get REALLY good grades to be able to go on a gap year and reapply then do that because all 7 of my mates that were on a gap year and wanted to do medicine/dentistry have all got places now.

No PLAB needed because Czech Republic is in the European Economic Area (EEA).

You only need to take the PLAB if you graduated from a medical school that is OUTSIDE the UK, EEA and Switzerland.

I applied to Charles university.

If you do not mind then can you tell me what your A level grades were?
Also on application what grades did you have?

For my AS-Levels i have achieved: A (Biology), B (Chemistry), B (Maths)
My predictions on application to Charles uni are A, A, B, a

And regarding the entry exam, is it difficult?
I herd 50% pass marks required at the minimum.

I applied after I got my A-Level results (A2). I got ABBb. I didn't want to re-sit A-Levels because I couldn't be bothered to waste another year on it.

It isn't 50% the pass mark is 75% and then you have to do an interview after the exam. 50% is for Brno University in Czech Republic: it's a good university, but nowhere near as good in terms of the standard of training that you get in Charles.

Btw, if you manage to get A*AA and you have excellent GCSEs (like 7A*s), then I'd recommend that you should take a gap year and fill it up with work experience, etc, etc. That's if you prefer going to a UK university. You can definitely get A*AA - predictions don't mean anything.

Well, i called M&D group today.
They told me they rank applicants according to their enterace exam and then choose the top scoring students. Furthermore they do not give conditional offers (well, very rarely), usually it is unconditional.

Is there any special books i can use to prepare for the entry exam?
What did you use to prepare for it.

Also my profile is very similar to yours in regards to grades. I think i will end up with ABBa

Well, I did my entrance exam through CMUCAS at Abbey College in Malvern, England where I took the one week training course before the exam, which happens at the college as well, including the interview (you can also take the two week training course). The course, I think, is well worh it as the training is so good that you could almost er.. predict what questions could come up!

It's quite expensive though: £1950... :eek3:

Oh i see.

Well, i think thats abit too late for me.
I have already chosen to do entry exam in Croydon.

Im just going to go over all AS+A2 Biology/chemistry/maths

Do you remember if the questions were of difficult nature or easy?
Also what standard were they? AS or A2?

The exam will cover both AS and A2 knowledge.

The exam isn't that hard, but the questions do make you think because it's multiple choice with each question having four or five options. There could be: one, more than one answer to each question or none of your options could be correct for that question (in which case leave the boxes for that question blank).

Also have you lot ever thought about St Georges University in the caribbean??
It's supposedly the number one international university in the world. Completely English speaking and you do all of your clinical rotations in america.
They have a very high pass rate, the same as a lot of the Ivy League Med schools in America for the exams, and nearly all of the graduates go on to America or the UK to practice (mainly America though).

You do your first yr in England in Northampton university where you get the American undergraduate degree and then you go onto St Georges for the medical graduate degree programme.
I applied there last yr and got an offer :smile:

Only down side is the cost ... the university fees are sooo expensive in America and Caribbean as a lot are private. Not to sure how it compares to Charles price wise though.
But St Georges have loads of scholarships though! the Americans seem to live their scholarships hah.

It is. Because you will have alevels you join the last yr of the undergraduate American degree in medical sciences at Northampton in England where you get an undergraduate degree, you have to get like 70%, if you get that then you get straight into the graduate degree in st Georges (the median degree).
The American system means that medicine is taught as a graduate degree.

I think it's a bit more expensive at St Georges, but they have lots of scholarships. Though you do one yr in England which you can get the normal student loans and government help etc and then 4 yrs in st Georges.

There's no bursaries or any sort of student financial support in Prague and I probably would have gone to SGU, but it's twice as expensive as Prague and you also have to do three years doing an undergraduate study before doing medicine whereas with Prague, you just go straight into medicine.

Sorry, there's no way I can. The notes are in the UK and I'm in Prague at the moment. I've got dissection period coming soon and then after that, it won't be long until finals so I won't be back in the UK until July at the earliest :frown:
