Am i normal? or too skinny?

I thought i weighed the normal amount for someone my age and height, but with the constant comments i got from my family and relatives, it did make me doubt myself a little.
My GP thinks im underweight, and has made my parents worry a little from his comments, asking what i eat and then saying that it's not enough for someone my age, and i should be eating more but tbh i eat like crazy, and if my family ever realised the amount i eat, they would be shocked. I just don't gain weight as easily as some people.

Whenever i see my relatives they are always making comments about my weight, and asking if im eating, it gets annoying after a while because i know im eating enough. I was out shopping yesterday and decided to check my weight at boots, and by uncle happened to be walking by and came in, and said 'Eat more, gain some weight' which made me think if so many people are saying it, maybe they're right. Maybe my family would prefer it if i was chubby, f*ck it, i like the way i am right now. :h:

Sorry, I know you didn't mean it in that way. I just get a bit touchy on this topic; I had a friend who had it, and it was awful. used to cry at night worried sick for her. It completely ruined her life and sapped everything out of her and I get so... angry by how often people throw the comments about how skinny people = anorexics nowadays. Same applies to references to OCD.

I think I meant it in the same way as you- as in "I'm that weight but I'm not anorexic because I don't have that mentality".

It annoys me too. Especially when someone loses weight because they've been exercising more and then people say "Oh, you look awful, you're really skinny, you should put some weight on" even thought they're perfectly healthy, probably even more so than before. I know we should be aware of eating disorders but it's not necessary to accuse everyone of them just because they've dropped a few pounds or are naturally skinny.

You're borderline underweight.

If you put on half a stone you would be a good, healthy weight. It depends on your build and such but one thing we can say for sure is that you shouldn't let your weight drop.
:| erm well i'de say normal considering im taller and wiegh less..though i am younger.. but i eat like a pig soo i dont care haha, but i dont think its anything you should worry about

Exactly.

Calling someone "Fat" is practically taboo nowadays, and yet people don't seem to think twice about calling someone the opposite.

Sorry for another weight thread, i know you're all probally sick of these by now. Anyway i was wondering what you think of my weight, because my family think im too skinny and think i don't eat, whereas i think my weight is ok, but from the constant comments i've been getting from members of my family, it's making me wonder whether they are right.

I got my weight checked, and i'm 5ft 3.7" (1.62m)
7st 11lb (49.8 kg)
BMI:19.0
body fat (%) 18%

21 yr old girl.

From the above info, what do you think? is my weight ok?

Thanks

Thin but normal.

Skinny but not underweight.

ignore people saying youre too skinny. as long as youre eating a balanced diet, 49kgs at 5ft3 seems perfect to me.

Well for BMI the 18-24 range is classed as 'normal' weight  For your height that does sound about right tbh. If it makes you feel any better I'm 5ft 11 and 8st 3 and am by no means skinny! And that's after seeing a doctor about it because my friends said similar things about me. They said it was due to genetics and nothing to worry about.
I know it sounds daft but my mum always says that some people are lighter because of their bone structure, so it could be that

Of course, if you're really worried about it, I would bring it up with your doctor the next time you have a check-up so they can put your mind at ease. Though, from what you've said, I think that you sound 'normal'

This.
OP you don't seem to skinny at all. :s-smilie:
I'm similar to you, but I know I call myself 'slender' instead of 'skinny' because although I am slim I have got meat on my bones. However my bone structure is really quite small, like I have tiny hands and wrists etc.

I'm 5'6" and around 100lbs. BMI is never a very accurate measurement; according to that I'm pretty damn underweight. I'm naturally slim and have been all my life and I suspect that it's probably in my genes; my dad is the same (though... with a slight beer belly, so if I do get fat that's where it'll all accumulate!) I eat plenty and don't give a damn about weight (ideally, I'll like to gain some. Will have to wait for a growth spurt.)

I'm the exact same as you. :yep:
I remember being slim since primary school, it's just part of who I am and although I used to wish I'd have a larger build, I've learn to accept it, and be happy with myself.

Me too, me too.
Well it depends on the person, when I had a bmi of 19 my period stopped and my doctor said it was because my weight was too low for my build(bone structure blah blah) now I have a bmi of 21.5 and am perfectly healthy and still fit into the same size clothes which i find really weird haha

BUt if you are healthy and have regular periods which is the most important thing probably then you are fine!

Really: :/ I thought this is the normal weight for a girl my age. My family have a tendency to over-react to things, and my dad thinks im not eating much, whereas my sister knows i eat ALOT, she usually makes comments like 'Are you eating for two?'

Chill out, you're absolutely fine
As others have said, you have a healthy BMI and if you feel like you're eating healthily and enough, then it's probably just the way you are.
I'm 5'4" and weigh 7st5, through no fault of my own. My parents always marvel at the amount I eat, and have previously suggested they'd think I was bulimic if they didn't know better.

Some people are just slim, it's nothing to worry about
You are very skinny.

I weight the same as you but I am 7 cms shorter.

If I was to extent myself for futher 7 cm. then I think I would look a lot more skinnier than I am now.

But it can varies from person to person though.

However, I do think it's not skinny ugly. It's just slim.

It said my weight is considered to be normal.. Well it was right at the start of the green region on the scale.

I havent been on a diet in order to get to that weight.. I mean I eat quite a lot and everything I like... so its just genetics I think ...

You're underweight, medically, but if your health is fine then don't worry about it yet.
