NHS Clinical Scientist Recruitment

I've been shortlisted for immunology, not sure how many of the 4 I applied to though.. The assessment sounds scary i got to interview at Southampton last year and it was more informal than i expected but not really sure how to prepare for this one! are the 4 ten min slots for different aspects of the job or with the different labs? wish we had more info!!

I got contacted by HR and was told that I have been short-listed but they didn't say which lab. I only applied to three and one outright told me that I had not made their shortlist, so I'm presuming I got shortlisted for the other two labs. Though, I'm not quite sure how!

I guess I will have to try my best in the interview now...

What I am a little confused about is that the Medical Physics posts stated 'specialism to be chosen upon appointment', but the documents showing the days for interviews show various specialisms on different days, for example on Thursday it is 'radiotherapy physics'.

It doesnt matter how many/which labs you were shortlisted for - you can still get any job. Basically everyone who attends the AC is ranked and jobs are distributed according to preferences. In fact, you may get a job you've not even applied for, just because you were better than anyone who wanted to get it (but not good enough to get your first choices).
About the AC itself - it was also mentioned several times that you may not even be interviewed by the people from the labs you've applied to. In fact, out of 8 interviewers I've only recognised one face. Stations are "themed" and follow the general structure outlined here.
A lot of useful info was already posted on this thread, so just look through a couple of previous weeks posts.

From what I have read about it, each lab will shortlist 3 or 4 people per post and then give an additional list of 10-15 reserves to account for the same person being shortlisted by different places. Positions are then allocated across everyone based on overall score as well as preferred locations.

Where exactly? I may have missed it but those are the labs I've applied for so am keeping a look out!

I pretty sure nothing has been said about any of the micro places, Ive been reading all the threads daily for any new info and no has said anything about any micro!

I'm desperately trying not to get my hopes up. I didn't get shortlisted for Immuno in Oxford and I worked there for two years. Still do two mornings a week as an MSc student. What are the chances of the Micro lab that I didn't pick as a specialty. *sighs* It's the not knowing that's the killer.

Good luck though! Can I ask where you applied and what qualifications you have? I'm wondering if the PhD is the end point.

I qualified as a micro BMS in 2006, worked in Treliske, Frenchay and Southmead hospitals and will submitting my PhD in Easter, also work for the army (TA not real army!) as a BMS in a field hospital! I thought I might stand a chance with all that but competition is very very high!!

Wow, sounds impressive. I didn't qualify until 2010 but I've been working as a BMS (in Oxford) since 2006 in all five of the major disciplines and am working on an MSc. With the way my manager kept pushing it I thought I stood a good chance to at least be shortlisted. But it is seriously competitive.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow? I have a genetics exam in the morning so could really do with some good news after. *fingers crossed for karma*

Indeed. You're right in saying that it's too late now, but it's not fair. From what I gather if people applied for more than 4 only the first 4 were going to be taken into account, but I'm not sure how they'd do that.

If anything has been learned from this process it is that next year the nhs website has to be rigged so you can only apply for 4. Even if you apply via a hospital that doesn't use the "apply now" button on the nhs website (like the Royal Free) you should have to check a box or something so that it registers.
