University of bath accomodation

What are the best halls of residence at Bath/the most popular?

I am thinking of either Westwood, Woodland Court and Marlborough/Solsbury Court?

Thanks!

I just applied to Westwood  Hope it's the right choice

I was in Marlborough Court and loved it, Woodland Court is also really nice and definitely worth the extra bit of money, though there are 15 people to a kitchen so it can get really messy! Personally, having been in Westwood a few times, I would never want to stay there - the room my friend was in (granted that was only one Westwood block and others could be different) was really small, there were something like 21 people to 2 kitchens, both of which were really small, and I don't fancy the idea of sharing a bathroom though apparently it's really not that bad :p: It really depends what you're looking for and what you can afford, but I'd say Woodland Court and Marlborough/Solsbury Court are definitely worth paying more for

The photos on the UoB website made Westwood look so much bigger than M/S... :s-smilie: Their photos really put me off applying for M/S but I ended up applying there anyway :teehee:

I haven't seen those photos, but I've only been in one Westwood block so the others may be bigger/nicer, I don't know. The Marlborough/Solsbury rooms are a pretty decent size, they don't look that modern (I think most other places have had/are due to have refurbishment/modernisation etc done) but they do the job well and the kitchens are nice. Admittedly I ended up with a normal size kitchen for 3 people so maybe with 7 it'll be a bit less spacious but I'd say you've made a good choice applying there

Having second thoughts about applying for Marlborough/Solsbury. The smaller number of flatmates is worrying me :s-smilie: I should have gone for Westwood...
My flat was a one-off as it was next to the laundry so smaller. Virtually every other one has 7 people, I know of one other that had 4 because it was on the end of the block so was smaller but that's it. And with Marlborough/Solsbury there are lettered blocks, and then 4 floors for each block with 2 flats coming off each, so in effect you'd be in one flat out of 8 in your block, so if there aren't many people in yours or you just want to socialise you can always go and visit the other flats, that's what I did in freshers

Thats true I guess. I also feel like I'd be wasting money if I went there :s-smilie: Do you know if they allow you to change your option?
I'm afraid I don't know - I think they've changed they way that people apply for accommodation since I applied anyway, but I guess you could email and ask?

There are no right and wrong choices, you'll have fun wherever you end up!
Quick summary:

Woodland - Almost double beds, big rooms, all en suite, kitchen size varies between 7 and 20.

Marl/Sols - Slightly bigger than single beds, flats of around 8, rooms not as big as Woodland but bigger than the rest, all en suite.

Westwood - Single beds, flats of about 20 with 2/3 kitchens in a flat, shared bathrooms (which are cleaned three times a week), fairly small rooms.

Eastwood - Single beds, houses of about 13 with a big shared kitchen, shared bathrooms (most cleaned, some Eastwood houses do not have a cleaner and these are cheaper).

Norwood - Similar to Westwood after refurbishment, I've heard.

Brendan Court is also similar to Westwood.

John Wood is in town, can't comment on the rooms as they've been refurbished since I last saw them.

Locations - Norwood is above the Parade / Elements and is therefore very close to your lectures. Westwood and Brendan Court are parallel with Parade and you'll walk no more than 5 mins to lectures. Eastwood is (amazingly enough) off to the east of Parade and a little bit north, you'll walk 2-10 mins to your lecture depending on where it is and which Eastwood house you're in. Woodland is the furthest away (furthest east point on campus) but you'll only walk 5 mins to reach the Parade and so it'll be a 5-10 min walk to lectures.
