bad luck on the first one, thats sooo unfair. but on the 2nd - yeah that sucks but not much you can do unfo.
i used to be scared of tailgaters but now i just drive however i feel comfortable with. if they want to do 90, so be it.
those dudes doing 90mph on dual carrigeways also annoy me, and they NEVER get caught :frown:

I do follow the rules of the road, I was just so worried :frown:

I'm so gutted, I learnt to drive so I could take care of my sis because my mum passed last year and now I just feel like the worst person in the world. I know I can retake but it's just a pain. My fault I know :frown:

Try and get letters from the hospital explaining what happened to your sister. You may get lucky with that one.

Next time someone tailgates you, either slow down more to not only piss them off but also they will have to overtake you, or stop somewhere safely so they can pass though. That's if it bothers you that.

Thanks for your replies guys

I'm not saying they weren't my fault but most people saying they'd stick to 30 (if that was the limit) i think are lying. I am a very safe driver but in situations like that you just don't know how you'd react until it happens. But thanks again for your replies

Three weeks :frown:

First was when my young sister had a fit in the middle of the night. I was so worried that I didn't want to wait for an ambulance so I rushed her into hospital. I was as safe as I could be despite my panic but was doing 40 I'm a 30 zone. I didn't see the speed camera until it was too late and only managed to get my speed down to 35. I thought i could appeal this because of the 10% speed rule and the circumstances but I got 3 points and a fine. I understand that it was stupid but it was the middle of the night and I was so worried about the little'un :frown:

The 2nd happened a few days ago - I went through an amber because this guy was tailgating me and I was so scared he'd crash into me if I stopped. But just as I went through it turned to a red light and it just so happens to be the first lights ive ever seen with a camera.

I can't believe I've lost my license just 3 weeks after passing :frown: :frown: do you think that's some sort of record? Certainly not one I'm proud of :frown: sorry for the rant guys

For the second youshould have been slower so that you could stop in enough time without sharp breaking
Did yo see the camera flash though? You may just have got away with it...

Hey, for the speed camera lights I did see it flash. I know that speedos over read by a few mph so I was probably going around 33 so I thought I might have just got away with it but got the letter through the post a little while after :frown:
Ive never understood being intimidated by tailgaters... What are they going to do? It is always funny to slow them down and see their reaction as you laugh at them in the mirror...

Your first one sounds like it could be appealed, but the second one I dont believe. The Red light cameras take a good 5 - 20 seconds to start working, not just as you go through.

I know that and I always do but this guy was so close I couldn't even see his lights anymore. As a new driver it's really intimidating :frown:

Just to add in future, don't let these pricks that tailgate you bother you. Screw them. Concentrate on your driving, do things in your time. Just think "I pay road tax, I pay insurance, I am entitled to be on the road and to drive MY way." This is the main thing that intimidates new drivers.

When people tailgate me I slow riiiiiiiiight down, if they don't get the message when I'm going ten MPH in a fifty zoned country lane then I beep them and flash my indicators. OP, you shouldn't let people bully you on the road.

Unlucky :frown: To get flashed at 35 you must have been doing 37 on your speedo! I go through them at 35 quite a lot and they've never flashed me!

And going through the amber light was unlucky too :frown: I go through them all the time and even when they've just turned red sometimes if i'm already going quite fast. Surely you could appeal and say you didn't have time to slow down in time and whoever was behind you would have gone into the back of you? Even in your test you're supposed to go through the light over breaking really suddenly if someone's right behind you.

I wouldn't worry about it though, i think you've just been really unlucky, people do those things everyday and never get caught for them, i don't think it makes you a bad driver, the rules of the road aren't as simple as they tell you in your lessons/test.

You should try to appeal the first one - you had a damn good reason. Years ago, a friend's brother had the top of his finger torn off in an accident. His dad got pulled over doing 70 down a 50 road. One look at the finger and the policeman gae him an escort all the way there, at 120mph.

I know but it's not that easy, I don't think the camera would have picked up the guy behind me so it's pretty impossible to prove that's why I kept going :frown:

I did appeal, not received a definite answer yet. The points have already been applied though so can't do anything until I get an answer. I doubt my appeal will be accepted because I got flashed not just pulled over by an officer. Although I did include medical records etc so.. :frown:
You should be able to appeal the second one, amber means you should stop unless doing so would cause an accident or a danger to other drivers, which from what you said appears to be the case here.

remember if somebody goes into the back of you, 999 out of 1,000 times insurance goes in your favour, so although of course you don't want to crash, keep going at the speed you feel comfortable with.

plus, if you're being tailgated it means there's a raised chance of you getting hit - surely all the more reason to go a bit slower? (and also just to piss them off  )
Just as well you got banned because, sadly, you're obviously unsafe to drive. I know 40 in a 30 mph zone is slightly more dangerous but I don't have an issue with that tbh.

The fact is you were caught by a bright orange, immovable box at the side of the road. This means you were guilty of two offences 1) speeding and 2) driving without due care and attention. Getting done by a traffic cop is bad luck, but by a camera it's your own fault.

Same with the second offence, plus not being confident enough when being followed, which means it's probably for the best that you will have to retake your test.

For your first speeding offense as far as I'm aware; you can take some sort of speeding awareness course for about £90, which you pass (its piss easy) to get 0 points for the offense. Provided its within two years of getting your licence? A colleague from work did that.

Perhaps someone can clarify this?

Yeah I know someone who went on one. Apparently it's down to the police whether or not to offer you one. Different police authorities have different rules. Also, if you get caught speeding in, say, Wales you may have to go back to Wales to take the course

I have to say I don't really understand people who notice they are being tailgated at lights, I never dare look in my rear view mirror if I'm approaching lights in case they change/car in front suddenly stops and by glancing away at the wrong moment I hit them.

When someone goes into the back of someone else I'm pretty sure its always their fault no matter what and even though it may affect insurance even though its not our fault I guess its the best thing to happen out of going through lights or not...

The traffic light one sounds unlucky I go through on amber sometimes and have never had a letter. Lots go through on reds here as well doesn't seem people get caught.

Shame you got caught out and have lost your license, I don't know what I would do in your shoes I bet insurance will cost tonnes now :frown:
