Politics - Aberdeen or Strathclyde?

Making the same thread in the Glasgow board, sorry if that's not allowed, just looking for a range of opinions. :P
Ok, I applied for Politics (and IR at Aberdeen) and got rejected from my top choice of Glasgow with AAABC in my Highers. I was devastated because I really really wanted to go there, I love the Uni, but more than anything I loved the location. I'm a total city person and I'm from Edinburgh so it's not too far from home.

So this leaves me with:

Aberdeen - Unconditional
Strathclyde - Unconditional
Dundee - Unconditional
Edinburgh - Conditional (A in any Higher)

I'm choosing between Aberdeen and Strathclyde because I want to move away from home and Dunde just doesn't really appeal to me.
I quite liked Aberdeen on the open day, but a lot of things about the place don't appeal to me (no decent gigs :/, far away, cold, and most of all it's just not Glasgow). However, I'm kind of under the impression Strathclyde isn't that good for Politics and the reason I really want to go there is because I love Glasgow. Also, jobs market isn't the best right now, so would quite like to go somewhere good for my course.

So, any suggestions? Thanks, much appreciated. :smile:

It depends what you want to focus on. Strathclyde is stronger in Scottish/British politics whereas Aberdeen focuses more on IR and comparative politics. If you're more interested in IR I would definitely recommend Aberdeen...

Hmm, I wouldn't say that Strathclyde isn't strong on international relations. We have an international relations & global governance class twice a week in second year. Though, I much prefer contemporary british governance.

Finally an "Aberdeen vs. Strathyclyde" thread. Though not having applied for Politics but for Management/Business I am in quite the same situation as you are/was...

Would be nice if anybody could help me too :smile:

(My offers: International Business (Strathclyde), Management and Hospitality & Tourism (Joint Honours, Strathclyde), Management Studies (MA, Aberdeen)). I think it is going to be Int. Business or Management Studies, but I don't know a lot about each course's reputation, career perspectives... Only considering the city & lifestyle, Aberdeen seems to be totally my thing...

First of all, I quite enjoy the politics-related courses I have (actually, IR) here in Aberdeen. I do not think we have that much less of a musical scene here, nor that is is colder than Edinburgh (in fact, I'd say the opposite). For a descent finish, a couple of hours on the train is not that far away, I'm coming from 3000km away!

But.. Strathclyde has a very good and well known business school, all other things being equal I would want to study business there!
