Leicester, Loughborough, Exeter - and no Lancaster?

And UEA over Lancaster, in terms of your italics stipulation?

Care to explain?

That was very authoratitive ha

But I have never really had that much information about Lancaster. Noone in my sixth form is going or applied. I did see that it was 10th in some League Table, I think it was the Times, and thought it was bit odd.
Maybe you are right. Out of interest (not accusing you of loyalty or anything, as it was rated 10th) do you go to Lancaster, maybe you could tell me more about it.
Thanks.

What is this TSR obsession with the Russell Group?!

It's a collection of research intensive universities, however, they are not all fantastic. They are not all brilliant universities. There are some (relatively) poor universities in there.

Royal Holloway, Exeter, York, Durham, Bath, St. Andrews and Leicester are better than some Russell Group universities, IMO. Particularly Cardiff, Belfast, Newcastle and Leeds.

To all the people who say that Russell Group universities are the best.

Where would you rather go?

Cardiff or Durham?
Newcastle or Bath?
Belfast or Exeter?
St. Andrews or Leeds?

Equal in prestige? Durham and St. Andrews blow Cardiff and Belfast out of the water.

What's with the Leeds hate? :frown: It seems really good for most courses.

Yeah, I know. I think Leeds and Newcastle both fully deserve their places in The Russel Group.

Yes, my other thread was about the social/student life in Exeter.
Chucklefiend has something against me because I said that Exeter was quite a bit more reputable than either Aston or RHUL. I'm not sure why, I don't think he is going to either. Please kindly explain.

I don't hate Leeds, I just think it's one of the weaker Russell Group universities, it's still really good :P

I do not have anything against you!

I was the one argueing with you too about how I think when it comes to business (which was the relevant course in the thread) I would put Aston higher than Exeter. But hey, let's not hijack your own thread. Le'ts focus on the topic.

medicine - edit : peninsula is at exteter; in that case exeter!
medicine - leeds

hehe... ok..
Both groups have many great universities. I don't think the Russell Group exceeds the 1994 group much, if at all.

I was speaking generally. If you want to break it down into courses, go ahead, but we'll be here a long time.

Cardiff and Belfast are only in the RG to keep the Irish and the Welsh happy...

I'm merely taking exception to the ridiculous amount of prestige afforded to the RG on TSR.

It usually comes from people who know absolutely bot all and think oh wow, a university is in this group with Oxford and Cambridge, it must be a group of the best universities.

Despite the fact that Durham, York, Exeter, Bath and St. Andrews are far better than some RG universities.

Honestly, this whole "Russell Group = UBER 1337" mentality is annoying. There are plenty of British universities outside the russel group that are probably better than the majority of RG institutions.
