Plural of converse [POLL]

Poll

Converse or Converses?

Right - I seen it both ways and heard people say it both ways. Equally seen people look at each other strangely and have this debate in public.

So which is it for you?

A pair of Converse? That shop full of Converse? The shelf with all the Converse on it?

OR

A pair of Converses, That shop full of Converses? The shelf with the Converses on it?

the singular and plural should be the same. Converses just sound weird

Converse
The word 'Converse' is used as singular and plural. I have never heard anyone say 'Converses'.

I say Converses :ninja:

Although, in my defense, so does everyone I know? :s-smilie:
This is obvious... Why the need for a poll?
"Converses" sounds stupid. It's Converse.

I don't use brand names as common nouns, and neither should all of you.

Clearly there's some scope for disagreement. Hence the need for a poll

Saying Convers/Converses is easier than 'Hi-Top basketball style trainer'

"Trainers" is easier than saying the latter, and just as easy as saying the former.

I'd say this, but I wouldn't say "Did you buy any Converse?" Hmm...

But doesn't specify between different styles of trainer. The iconic Converse is a Basketball style Hi-Top trainer. To refer to such a style and not all trainers I would say converses or hi-tops. Both of which are brand names, or derived from brand names.
It's a proper noun (name) so the plural will be the add 'es' on the end making Converses.

One Mike, two Mikes
One Converse (one shoe, left or right)
A pair of Converses (both left and right Converse shoes)

What brand? Converse.

That's why you'd say, "Converse trainers".
