that's what I thought

Had a school trip there once, when it was still South Bank Polytechnic. Kind of reminded me (inside and out) of the set of Logan's Run, and the students kind of reminded me of the characters in Logan's Run.

Exactly. That's what I thought.
I don't know about The Times, but in The Guardian LSBU is 5th from bottom. :s-smilie:

Knock down LSBU and the shopping centre and make another Westfield. Far better use of the space.

On a more serious note, I've looked around a fair few unis, and the SB buildings are all modern and mostly pleasant looking, the library is well equipped etc but there's no community feel. The students tended to be mature and international, based on the ones I saw, and as such, lost the university feel. On top of that, Elephant and Castle is abysmal, and it's a shame that with both LSBU and the London College of Communication there, the area hasn't become more student friendly and chic.

The Times and Guardian rankings are based on different things, and so the results can differ greatly at times.

Either way, 5th from bottom isn't fab...
This is basically knocking down the uni directly. It is bad? hmmm, it might be true, might not be true. Who knows?

I do not know how good it is as I have never studied there.

I kind of feel sorry for people who are at the unis that have been labelled as worst unis. What can they do?

Some courses are only offerred at these unis and I have to admit quite often the course contents are more attractive at lower ranked uni.

In reality, I don't think it's that bad. I think suggesting that the uni should be knocked down for constructing duckpond or a park is well harsh.

If any change is to be made, I would make them be a polytechnic again, seeing as they are not doing as well as they thought as a uni.

I'd personally prefer a park.....

or a sports centre.....

There is enough land, for a sport centre, park and a duck pond if we flatten it

In fact they really should close down all ex-poly unis and replace them with parks.

LSBU is top if you turn the league tables upside down,:P
People coming out of LSBU seem to do well for themselves in my experience (at least better than some league tables would suggest). Courses are usually highly vocational though so indeed I wouldn't choose my Maths graduates from there but for some specialised IT or business degrees, then why not. If anything, their graduates tend to not compete so much with University of London unis/UCL/Imperial. I think that if you go to LSBU, you have to accept that you are going to a decent uni but it is most definitely second-rate compared to a lot of London unis.

London MET and University of Greenwich are in my opinion much poorer London Unis.

and how about so-called "Unis" with dubious names like United International College that are clearly designed to confuse/impress foreign students who don't know anything about British unis?

The bit where you see Jenny Agguters butt... or just the series?

Well, never watched the series - but the building was kind of depressingly concrete, and the students all milled around aimlessly doing f-all and acted like there was no future outside the institution (not that upon graduation they were going float up in the air and get gunned down by some robot).

There wasn't any nudity or homicidal androids, though.

London South Bank University actually have some decent alumni that you probably wouldn't come close to achieving the like of what they have:
David Adjaye, OBE
Edd China, Motor specialist
Shahid Malik, MP
Greg Searle, MBE, Olympic rower
Phil Spencer, BBC tv personality and business man (real estate)
Bill Pit, MP
Colin Talbot, Political Scientist, did a Phd at LSE
and MANY others.

You're taking a mick out of LSBU like you're the best, but I highly doubt that.

STOP undermining institutions!

A lot of people didn't care when they were younger, and suddenly they got a passion for life and are taking their life and making the most out of it, compared to the little passion some of you may have for yours.
I never used to pay attention in class and would underperform (except from maths) until year 11 where I got a passion and got high grades, don't undermine these people because this may be the same case for them too.

Prestige really isn't as big a deal when you're at postgraduate level, by the way.

YAY!

God knows they will be more educational than LSBU ever was....
