Man arrested for burning the Quran

They're probably being arrested over *burning* the object and causing a fire hazard more than the text.

how absolutely ridiculous, just entirely incomprehensible-

how dare the Guardian suggest an air of justification in the acts of those who stormed the UN compound- simply not condemning the ideology between such a link strikes me as an endorsement. I am tired of these gross over reactions, they're completely unjust- I have grown accustomed to our nation's flag being burned by certain members of international communites/countries, I have seen death threats made to the masses of our people aired live on television- all in the name of political corectness, and I and you simply brush them under the carpet, why? Because we're sane. I am not a nationalist, I'm a humanist- political correctness/oppurtunists are the downfall of this country.

I'm glad this idiot got arrested.

Even though I don't agree with atheism and think that it's implications are harmful and very damaging to society (don't question me about it, i really cba and you're probably full of empty rhetoric anyways), I'm not going to burn the writings of some of the prophets of Atheism, especially considering it could mean something to others who have read and loved it.

complete double standards! what happened when asians burnt poppies on rememberance day and brandished signs saying british soldiers burn in hell. They get a police escort home, absolutely disgusting.

i agree with your last statement completly. as a white person, i am repulsed by the moral degradation of the western world since the end of world war 2.

one thing that repels me more than anything is the compassion shown to murderers and rapists. how does islam deal with murderers and rapists?

I respect things which deserve respect. I would argue a person who models his life to please a fictional God, in fear of eternal punishment is a slave. Now I'm all for freedom of speech and if that's your view, I'm disappointed, but I respect your right to believe what you want.

Being free is being allowed to do whatever you want as long as you don't affect the freedoms of others. I don't agree with burning the Quran, it's hateful and unnecessary. However, it's his right to voice those beliefs, just like it's your right to believe in Islam.

And the Quran really doesn’t have any science validating what it says, but that’s besides the point.

Burning poppies is not the answer. Dialouge, and giving the british media a wake up call for the clear islamophobic reporting, is the way foward.

Dialogue would help. Clearly, these people just try to spread hate. I know one person who loves mankind burning Gods Guide to them...

Well the burning of it might have served no purpose and was completely pointless, but it didnt affect anyone other than piss off a few people. The only reason I would see that you would want to punish someone for something like this is if the punisher was a Muslim themselves.

This really, truly is so close to the final edge for me before something happens.

I don't see why he'd be arrested for that. That's completely in his rights as far as I see it. Is it a ****ty thing to do? Absolutely. Is it within his rights? Absolutely.

Would appreciate it if you didn't make generalisations. I am asian and definitely not muslim, far from it. Also, I'm not planning to burn any bibles but completely agree with the fact muslims "blow" things out of proportion compared to other religious groups.
How can they complain when they burnt the poppies for armistice day? They had nothing to do with religion, a complete lack of respect for those who died.

I believe in freedom of speech and expression. I do not like it when people abuse their rights, but then I know for a fact if Muslims burnt a Bible there would be practically no reprocussions.

He should not have been arrested, certainly reprimanded, but not arrested.

Those two scenarios are NOT the same. One is insulting soldiers, the other is insulting a religious group. A valid comparison would be if someone burnt the Bible and was not arrested.

Now, I believe burning the Q'uran and poppies are both disgusting and mindless acts. Yet I believe people have a right to express such views. Do we live in a democracy or don't we? Freedom of speech must be protected. It's a weird thing when I find myself envious of America.

1.5 billion Muslims did not all burn poppies on armistice day. Therefore it is not hypocritical for those who didn't burn those poppies to now oppose burning the Q'uran.

ok, basically, he gave no explanation, he is inciting religious tension, and his intentions were to cause rifts and to slander muslims,

he is only fooling himself.

We muslims are peaceful, we wish to engage in dialouge with this man and his supporters, to condemn what he did, and to answer all his misconceptions, though i doubt he's ever read the Divine Book
