Laughing at the commoners through the 10ft tall steel-fenced, police-guarded perimeter whilst he eats caviar on French toast and canapés, washed down with some fine champy-poos?

Also seeing as Cambo, his family and Curious George are the only residents of the street, it would be the worst party ever!

I doubt it. It'll be a huge photo-op so the fayre on offer will be pretty humble, I would have thought.

Yes, but they had the good sense to boot out their royals several centuries ago so they wouldn't have to put up with this sort of patronising poppycock.

I have no interest in going to a street party, but I remember when I was little there were parties for the Golden Jubilee and everyone had a great time. How many opportunities do people - children in particular - get to experience something like this nowadays? (By this I mean a big community event).

I'm personally sick to death of the people who will moan non-stop about absolutely anything - seemingly the majority of the country. It's actually a big motivation in my decision to emigrate.

Moan about taxes, MPs, the state of the NHS or the suggestion to have party (how offended you all must be...) all you like, but these things only have a small effect on your life. It's general day-to-day life that is important, and that is increasingly filled with intolerance, hatred and general negativity.

(This isn't directly aimed at your post by the way, just in general).

How ironic you say that, considering they replaced the royals with an Emperor, then in the 1830s brought in another monarch, then after 1871 they invited the king to return and the king rejected them.

Someone's been on Wikipedia :awesome:

And France today is such a paradise without its monarchy, right?

Yep :h:

The fact that our children's happiness has to be tied to another group of human beings who we've put on a pedestal (aka the monarchy) says more about the state of our society in this day and age, rather than about me. I'm not moaning but this isn't the 19th century. I am not filled with awe or respect for the monarchy and they certainly don't make or break my happiness.

Some people are just miserable, and want everyone else to be as miserable as they are. This constant stream of cynicism is enormously damaging to our society, and quite frankly it's childish.

agreed - im no fan of Cameron but some people will screama nd shout and rant about him if he said good morning to someone.

I wasnt around for the street parties of the charles/diana wedding but my mom and grandparents were and they said it was fantastic fun.

People in this country are such a bunch of grouches at times

They don't make or break anyones happiness. I didn't care about the Royal family then, and I don't care now. My criticism of your view was it's yet another layer of whinging about something that is meant to be a positive thing. You don't care about the wedding, we know, so complain about the wedding. Don't moan about the suggestion that people should have a good time simply because you don't agree with the occasion.

This negative attitude sweeping the country is far more destructive than any unwanted cuts.

Also, saying "I'm not moaning but..." doesn't cancel out any subsequent moaning you do...

Oh but the North is lovely! Lille, Amiens, Arras, Caen, St. Malo . . . it's beautiful, the food is amazing, the people are lovely . . . you have a much better North than we do. :frown:

The prime minister has called on the nation to "get on and have fun" on the day of the royal wedding, urging Britons to organise street parties.

In the Sun newspaper,
David Cameron warns councils "not to interfere", after reports of "petty bureaucracy".

He says 29 April will be a "chance [to]... celebrate the great things about our country".

It comes after recent figures revealed 4,000 applications for street parties in England and Wales.

On Monday, Mr Cameron will travel to the north of England, with wife Samantha, to promote street celebrations.

Urgent guidance
The Department for Communities and Local Government is also expected to issue urgent new guidance for councils who have attempted to stop royal wedding festivities with unnecessary conditions.

In February, Transport Secretary Philip Hammond wrote to all local councils in England informing them that he was cutting Whitehall red tape by scrapping existing government road-closure guidance.

He said the move was designed to make it easier for councils to let street parties go ahead and allow local communities to celebrate without being inundated by paperwork.

Mr Cameron writes in the Sun: "Samantha and I will be holding one in Downing Street and bringing together local people and charities.

"It's incredibly simple. All you need to do is to get in touch with your council if you need to close the road. They'll let you know if there are any issues.

"My message to everyone who wants to have a street party is: I'm having one and I want you to go ahead and have one too.

"The truth is that this is a great chance for communities to come together and celebrate.

"So go on - bring out the bunting and let's make this a day to remember. For everyone."

..... I for one, shall stay at home. :colonhash:

I stopped reading after I read the Sun newspaper.

It's called freedom of speech matey, I bet if I was moaning about immigrants or some other trendy topic people wouldn't have a problem with it.

Because negative attitudes on forums lose people their jobs

Saying "I don't care about the Royal family"...then apologising for them doesn't cancel out any subsequent apologising you do

I meant english monarchy.
I think you said what France doesn't have a monarchy and does better without it ( altho it might not be you in which case im sorry) . So i said what it doest metter couse english monarchy doest do ****.

As to France. Ive only place ive been to is Paris.
I dont argue maybe its better for people to live there i never actually stayed there for more than a week.
But i find it more dirtier and public transport etc is more run down than the one in UK or Germany. Also every single time ive been there someone was striking. WTF really? Also you immigrants started to bash **** out of stuff quite often.

But then i lived in UK for quite a while and i quite like it here and been all over germany which i like very much.

But again its only my biased opinion. I dont try to offend anyone. And im pretty sure what if you live in France you have you reasons to think its better.

You actually mean I have only been once, stayed less than a week and I know nothing about France, the cities or the way of life.

Paris is beautiful, I find our public transportation to excellent. The strikes don't bother me the slightest it is part of being French.

What do you mean by "you immigrants started to bash **** out of stuff quite often"? are you saying I am an immigrant to England a country of which I am a citizen on my mothers side? and have lived here for nearly 6 years (bar the summer where I spend it in France).

Please visit France (and not just Paris) more than once before spouting utter drivel.

Me criticising your speech is my freedom of speech matey... And I'd actually have a bigger problem if you were moaning about immigrants or any other stereotypical thing people moan about.

I didn't specify on "forums" - I said attitude in general. Maybe I'm just weird in that I prioritise happiness over wealth though?

I haven't made any judgements on the royal family at all - be they positive or negative. What are you going on about now? As you are so keen on making a point out of it, I'll specify that I don't particularly like them and think they should have most of their funding/tax breaks taken away. That has zero relevance to the actual act of having a street party though. People enjoy the party - not the thing that sparked it.

Well as a socialist as do I, hence why I find this colossal waste of money to be a farce

Of course we have good healthcare... Is your dad a French citizen? I hope he is paying for the healthcare he is using that I pay for through taxes. You know I could say that the London Underground is dirty as I saw a tramp taking a **** in public but I don't do I?

Nah my family is Russian but we are have Austrian citizenship and his insurance covers his french-hospital care. Dont know how it works but yeah basically its being paid for so dont worry.

I dont mean the rubbish on the floor etc. I mean what well apart from **** lines like district , circle and hammersmith the carriages are newer and they upgrade most stations etc....but in paris while being more spacious stations/trains are quite old.

Well they are still in France.

I would go to one. But in my area there are none, you'd get stabbed.

Any coincidence that so much of my area voted for Labour? :creep:
