Exeter vs Royal Holloway

Hey  I have recently received offers from Exeter and RHUL to read English, and whilst I know that Exeter offers a far better course, my heart is set on RHUL and I know that I'll be a lot happier there (something which naturally brings around better grades). What do you think? Should I go for the university where I feel more comfortable or for the university which has the better course (which is in Cornwall - a thousand miles away from anyone I know).
Help!

I study at Exeter Cornwall, and yes the reputation is better here, but RHUL is pretty stunning. Just go where you're comfortable, particularly if you know it will affect your grades.

How do you find it there...is it too isolated? That's partially my worry, especially as I haven't had the time to visit it yet. Thank you for your reply though

ah, but the same could be said for Greenwich :P

If you think you would be happy at RHUL for some reason then go there.
Royal hol is practically Hogwarts.. haha I'd advise there
Go to RH and join meeee
Go to where you are comfortable with. I did not like RHUL when I visitted it. I just didnt feel that I would fit in with the people. The Founder''s Building is the only attraction, to be honest. The rest of the uni si just 'meh'. I am not really a fan. However, Go to where you like. RHUL is very very near to London so nightlife must be better than Exeter at Cornwall. I guess.

I know! I always assume that aesthetics = prestige (influence of Oxbridge, no doubt). But there are a few anomalies; i suppose one might say the same of aberdeen: http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue56/iwmw-2008-rpt/figure-1.jpg

Generally they are exceptions to the rule though... although Warwick and York are simultaneously reputable and fugly.

hahaha, I think we're both quite superficial, but I do relate a uni's architecture and environment to its prestige somewhat too:rolleyes:. And yes not sure about York, but I know Warwick's fugly!

Nottingham Trent's buildings are nice too, and are in the town centre, while Uni Of is exiled to a nice, but far away campus!
Ahhhhh i had the same problem! For me it was between southampton and exeter and even though the course was better at exeter, in my heart i prefered southampton and felt at home there. So i chose soton

I'm going to give myself a couple of weeks to sleep on it! I'm applying through Extra though so I don't get an insurance, only a firm. Probably RHUL though

How are you applying to 2 places through Extra? Have the rules changed on that, it used to be that you could only apply to 1 at a time?

It turns out I was told wrong...I'm not applying though extra, but as a 'late applicant' instead - it was a luuurvely surprise to hear the other day that I do indeed get an insurance! I'm going with RHUL though in the end

That sounds like a good decision to me, given what you wrote in your OP
