Because you still use the roads every day, regardless of whether you're driving a car.

I have said it time and time again on this thread, I want to get private insurance and stop paying into the NHS, so no, I won't need it myself.

And even if you use private care, you still use the NHS.

And yet it would still be no where near enough.
What about people who haven't paid tax? One of my friends was diagnosed with leukaemia at age 18. Her treatment so far would have cost an awful lot more than what she or her parents could afford.

Like oteaster said, private charity  because people who don't want to pay taxes ( a minimal amount, considering the value of service), they'd be falling over themselves to pay thousands for your friend. The rest, like Isaqy don't give a **** and are invincible and would never use NHS

That's the silliest post I've read on here in a while. Does that happen in America when people get shot? Idiots of a left-wing persuasion would tell you that it does, but I can assure you that it doesn't.
you selfish twisted son of a bitch,
how will all of the depressed body conscious teenage girls afford their boob jobs privately?
It is our duty as men to help create as many publicly funded bazookas as possible!

Carajo!

I am more than willing to pay for my own.

Every private doctor (except possibly those that trained abroad) was trained at NHS hospitals, after graduating from a medical school which used NHS hospitals for teaching. Therefore, even if you pay privately for your treatment, you're still not covering the full costs involved in your doctor being there to treat you. Your taxes can be considered retrospective payment for the training of the consultants you are now seeing.

Also - as other people have alluded to - in an emergency situation, good luck finding a private A&E

So, because people don't want their property forcibly taken from them they should jump off a cliff?

The idea is that this isn't a country of 60 million or so individuals, we're much better when we work together as a team. If everybody was just looking out for themselves, this would be a terrible place to live. Instead we work together to create one of the great institutions in this nation's history, the NHS.

You piece of crap.

Ask Americans if they pay taxes? Didn't know it was a tax free country, oh wait, its not

Exactly. For some reason, wanting to live in a society, rather than decentralised communities, makes you a crazy left wing Commie :yep:
The problem is you people don't seem to understand, NOTHING justifies theft (ie: stealing money from other people).

Someone get me a bucket.

And don't call the NHS a great institution, it is a pisspoor example of socialised medicine.

I am considering getting private health insurance, but no longer wish to contribute to the NHS as it is the worst healthcare system in Western Europe. I do not see it as my responsibility to pay for other peoples' healthcare, when I am more than willing to pay for my own.

Is there any way I can stop the British public stealing my money to pay for their healthcare?

you could always piss off out of this country.

The problem is that you don't seem to understand that most people actually care about others. We don't want to see suffering, or people having to get into debt to treat their kids cancer.

Far left?
Are you one of these loony americans who thinks anything less than hard right wing brutality is "far left wing"?

theft is someone forcing you to hand over money against your will

you CHOOSE to stay in this country
you CHOOSE to occupy british soil
you CHOOSE to use bristish services

therefore you choose to pay taxes to fund those services and yes at some point he uses the nhs everyone does

Except that the State doesn't create communities, it divides them into recipients and contributors. It breeds resentment, and involves forcible taking of property. Far greater than the NHS were the voluntary hospitals of Victorian times, based upon actual community - rather than forcible appropriation of other's property.

That's like saying you CHOOSE to live in the house that they burgle, or that you CHOOSE to walk along that street where you get mugged. It's a *******s argument.

Emigration is not as easy as one would believe. Also, why on earth should someone leave their birthplace simply because some poor socialists are desperate to get their hands on their hard-earned money?

They don't have an NHS so the private hospitals had to develop A&E facilities.

No they will get treated (I believe it's law that they have to?) but as soon as they are stable they will be chucked out. Not sure if they get billed for it or not - maybe the government pays?

NOt true. NYU will not admit medicaid patients under any circumstances and actively turn them away.
