Officially, you are meant to sign guests in at reception and they can stay for up to three nights. I don't think many people really stick to this rule though as it's quite relaxed. I don't know of any other limit (i.e. any per term or number of guests quota)

Cheers Hollie.

Just to clear up a few things also -

The halls will not be going completely catered or completely uncatered next year.

Ssschu - you asked about the surrounding area, I wrote a lot about this in my second post in this thread.

Paterson - Myddleton wing houses most of the postgrads (though still some undergrads). You have to pay a little more for it, but the facilities are certainly proportionately better. I asked residences management about a month ago what the prices would be, they responded with they are not themselves sure yet but would publish it on the website when they know.

Candii - Rosebery is possibly the most relaxed of all the halls for late nights and friends over...I'll leave it at that. If you want to be a party animal, you can be a party animal. Trust me, you'll never be the only one out on any night...if only because i'll beat ya to it! And Hollie, because she's a seasoned clubber...

That made me smile, haha. I'm feeling very reassured now, thanks:smile:

hi, i'm an undergrad due to start school this sept. pardon me for my ignorance, but for the holidays ( since roseberry is 31 weeks ), for international students, we do pay to stay in right? or we need to move out as well. the rates for staying in are the same as the ones given on the LSE website? thankyou!

Hey, basically, i have a slight dilemma. I live like 10 minutes down the road from angel station, but i want to get involved in the social life at lse!! and everything else that is involved in the uni experience. Thats why i changed my mind, and now want to apply for accommodation. but from reading this, rosebery sounds the best, which is the closest one to my home! What do i do?? Is it worth it?? I'll be putting carr as my second choice and not sure on third. any suggestions? and plus, i'll only be needing accommodation for the first year i think.

Hello, for those already at Rosebery, I have a question...
When I came to look around, I walked down the street I think is called Exmouth market? Anyway, there was a really cool looking cafe where inside, all the baguettes and stuff were just piled high on tables in the shop! Does anyone know what it is called, I can't remember, and I really wanted to look at the website. Thanks for your help!

smallbearsis: All residents are given the same 31 week contract (domestic and international) and everyone is given the option of paying extra to stay during the holidays (same weekly rate as during term time - the prices on lsevacations are for tourists). You can choose a few weeks before whether to stay during the holidays, just let reception know (if there is a royal wedding, you have to tell them well in advance, but given current circumstances that's highly unlikely). Hope that helps.

silent)123: Yeah, a lot of people who live in London decide to stay in halls for their first year just so that they can fully integrate into uni life. As for your third option, it depends what you are looking for! Bankside and Holborn are more expensive, but Holborn is closer to campus and Bankside is by the river. From what you say (about wanting to be involved in the social life), you should probably choose a hall with a corridor layout (Rosebery) rather than separate flats (Holborn).

englica: Good question, however unfortunately I don't know the answer! Sorry!

Sounds like I'm missing out!
hi, I'm coming to lse next year to do a masters. i was wondering if you could give me some advice regarding accomodation. Im aware that some of the masters student may well be a bit older than me so although i ve been lookin at postgrad halls mainly (wanna be able to work when i need to ), i dont wanna just be stuck with people older than me that i wont really socialise with. i equally dont wana be stuck with 18 year old freshers stoppin me from bein able to work. what kinda atmosphere is like it in places like butlers wharf and sidney webb? dyu think as probably one of the younger postgrads i should maybe look at more undergrad type halls?
Hi,

I've applied for accomodation pretty late (its almost mid-May now). My choices are 1. Carr-Saunders Single
2. Roseberry Single
3. Bankside Shared
4. International Hall Single
5. Hughes Parry Single
6. Connought Single

What are my chances of getting into one of the LSE Residences? I really don't wanna end up in an Inter-collegiate residence and I filled up the options only because it was compulsory.

Also, I will be arriving with a friend and I want to make sure we end up in the same Residence. Is there any way of doing that?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,
Anuj

Try contacting the LSE Accommodation office about this. If you email/ring them add your friend's student number as well.

Heya. I don't think there is any way you can guarantee being in the same hall as your friend. If you don't both end up in the same hall, one of you could swap though (more info on how to do this is earlier in this thread). That happens quite a lot. As candii said, perhaps ring the accommo office with this one. Hope that helps.

Hey. Most PGs at Rosebery get placed together in the Myddleton Wing, which is quieter. If you want to work hard whilst at Rosebery, this is definitely possible. We have quiet study areas and a "silence rule operates between 23.00 and 0745" (if that sounds official, it is. I just copied that from a poster that management have put in all rooms). I can't say how this compares to the other halls as I've only ever been at Rosebery. Perhaps a hall with a flat (rather than corridor) layout would be quieter though (e.g. Holborn). In terms of your concerns about age, a lot of UGs at LSE have taken multiple gap years and there are some 2nd/3rd years in the hall as well.

Very useful thread. I think I'll ask Roseberyy as first choice, though not having a proper oven will be a problem :\

Thanks a lot Candii.. I have done that already.. Let's hope something works out.. Our priority is obviously getting into the LSE residences first.. We could worry about being in the same residence later I guess.. THanks for your reply..
