no it really isnt. a look through my posts should convince you that I'm an ug. I just take offence at someone insulting one of the kindest men I've met.

My opinion for pre-freshers is that Pembridge is not the best resource-wise but its cheap, fun and you are more likely to make lasting friendships there compared to other halls.

I'm in love with the neighborhood that it's in. (So's my mum, even thought she preferred that I choose all the SoKen halls because of the walking/safety issue at first! XD) I actually have two Pembridge options in my form, a non ensuite-single and an ensuite twin.

Do peeps at Pembridge tend to call it a night early (before 11), or do some stay up/come in late working/partying? I'm asking just in case I have to come in late from someplace like the library or a night out at the union...
Also, I'd like to hear some scoop about the kitchens - people say it's shared between 45+ per kitchen so it's frickin' crowded, but I'm sure it's massive (to compensate for the many people) and there's more than one hob/cooking station available

dont worry about the kitchen issue as someone before me said, you will have your space to cook and the kitchen is a major social link up spot. In fact the hall socially tends to get split between the 2 kitchens.

of course people go out, you will be doing most of your partying in 1st year anyway as the novelty does fade somewhat by 3rd year...

To be honest I didn't put much thought into my choices. I looked on the Imperial website for about 10 minutes and then just looked under a few price brackets for single rooms on the application form. I wouldn't be too keen on Wilson as it's huge and apparently not the nicest, but it has only single rooms which is the most important thing to me. And an ensuite single at Pembridge is actually cheaper than the standard single at all of my choices except Wilson, which compensates for the fact that Pembridge is the most remote hall and you need to share your kitchen with 40+ other people...

The problem is that we're quite likely to not get ANY of our choices, and I really don't want to be put in a shared room.

If you put room type as your preference as opposed to price you would be more likely to get your preferred room type.

But yeah, from what I've heard we probably won't get what we want anyway.

You should be okay getting shared rooms... shared rooms tend to have far more availibility. My brother, who studied at Imperial, says that everyone he knew applying for accomodation who wanted to share was able to share.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about what I get to be honest. I guess I do have a preference for which hall I get, but I'm sure I'll be happy where ever I end up.

Yeah I doubt it makes that much of a difference to be honest.

I would be disappointed, but I'd just wait to see what my roommate was like. I only included my geekiest interests on the "interests" section of the application form so hopefully they would make sure I was sharing with a geek

Surely if you put price range as your preference, and say it's >£150pw (and you can afford this) then you will have a better chance of getting a single, as all the rooms in the price range will be a single.
