Just a few answers that I can actually remember putting...
A and C for the highest species richeness and lowest respectively.
The prokaryotic cell showed a flagellum and I put the outer dashed area as a capsule however some people have told me it could have been a cell wall. :s-smilie:
I then labelled the ribosomes and circular DNA inside the cytoplasm for the other 2 marks.

There was also an adaptations question I seem to recall which I believe EVERYONE taking the exam should have got, it was behavioural therefore I think it was the one where they lie down in the heat of the sun (can't remember great detail).

I put 23,000 genes as none of them had differentiated and totipotenty is unspecialised and undifferentiated. (I'm probably wrong here).

With the allele question where it required shading I simple just swapped the point at where they cross over onto the other one. So on the new diagram I just didnt shade the little tip on the right and shaded the left top top on the right one. If that makes sense.

There was a lot of data questions and one of the stem cell questions through me completely :/.

Overall it was okay, could have been better, hopefully the grade boundaries are low and that I got a C  .

I put 23,000 too! Because totipotent cells are all switched on so they can be specialised into ANY cell type...

for the average one im pretty sure i put 7.7

And for that cell wall/capsule one i put Cell wall, because the inner line was the cell membrane, so i guess they drew the cell wall without drawing the capsule!...seems like a trick question! and the capsule isnt present in all bacteria, only in some. for the labelling one i put ribosomes and circular DNA.

And i did exactly what you did for the shading question! Got a bit worried that some people shaded the whole thing in! :s-smilie:
The question about why the egg cell is a good source of pluripotent cells, what did people put? I talked about the blastocyst at 4-5 days, is that on the right track?

Yep I mentioned 4-5 days, you should get some marks.

I don't remember this question! - that's a bit worrying, ha!

Although at one point I remember writing about 4-5 days, and IVF, so maybe it's this question!

A phew, at least I got (hopefully) some marks  It really stumped at first, because I thought the egg cell would have been the source of totipotent cells

Thats exactly what I thought.
I thought all embryonic cells are totipotent? Unless after 4-5days they become pluripotent.:confused:

I'm pretty sure it was 23,000... and Jamie is right - it's only 1 mark anyway, so no big deal!

Im sticking to the fact that the structure around the outside of the prokaryotic cell was a Cell Wall and not a Capsule! I'm probably wrong - but the structure was bang next to the Cell Membrane - therefore it has to be a wall..... the capsule isn't always present, and even when it is, it is never next to the membrane

I repeat,

LOL that wasn't a cell wall, click on this link and this link, and read out to me what it says for the final outside layer. Thanks.

+the cell wall isn't a floaty jelly like layer, it is a solid thick line, I can show you a thousand more links to clarify it was a capsule, but I'm pretty sure you and the people who repped your comment would argue otherwise, against all logic and thousands of pieces of evidence both online and in textbooks in order to refuse to believe you lost a mark.

It had already mentioned the embryo was fertilised, IVF was not necessary and relevant to the question!

The three key things to mention for three marks were: 3/4/5 days--8/16 cell stage--blastocyst
Snow leopard you need to calm down and stop being ****.

Calm Down! Let's wait until August then - I have looked at your rather crude links, and neither of them confirm the structure was a capsule and not a cell wall... infact most images I have found suggest it was a cell wall.

Seeing as you seem to be the fountain of all knowledge, where do you suggest the cell wall was then in that diagram??

Who cares where the cell wall was, the cell wall is not the final layer of prokaryotes, the capsule is, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL what 'images' have you found suggesting a 'cell wall', that was clearly a capsule, it looks nothing like a cell wall-

I'm done here. There is some serious failure in logic in people, when all of google images is showing the final layer, the jelly wobbly bit, to be the capsule. I won't be responding any further. Believe it's a cell wall, lol, couldn't care less, just make the same mistake again, only helps lower the grade boundaries for others.

Rightfully I am, I present a strong argument backed up with evidence supporting the correct answer, trying to help people out here, who are requesting mark schemes, and people just decide, 'no', 'I'll pretend I didn't see that', 'I got the mark', 'and I'll just repeat my answer, the wrong answer, a million times - because that'll make it right'.

Haha... what a dick. Didnt think you'd be able to answer where the cell wall was! That's because it was what you labelled 'a capsule'.

Have a look at this link smart arse and then tell me you're right:

http://faculty.ivytech.edu/~twmurphy/txt_202/pro_cell.htm

Most prokaryotes don't even have a capsule.

'A distinct, gelatinous glycocalyx is called a Bacterial capsule, while an irregular, diffuse layer is called a slime layer. Glycocalyx can help protect bacteria from phagocytes. It also helps in the formation of biofilms such as a coating on inert surfaces such as catheters, teeth or rocks.' -Wikipedia

Glycocalyx is just another term for capsule....
lol...
looooooool....
LOL im gonna laugh so hard when the mark scheme comes out and it says Cell Wall  dude, calm down, don't need to be such a prick!
Definitely capsule

WOWWWWWWWW ur such a wasteman for saying that! Not everyone has to get the "right" answer, and dude what's it to you anyway? the exam is over and done with. It was all a healthy conversation until you came along. And why u gettin so emotional? Can the answers be changed now? No. So no need to be so waste.

It is going to be hilarious when the mark scheme says Cell Wall.... it's clearly a bloody cell wall - if only for the fact that it is NEXT to the cell membrane. Had there been another layer, and then the layer we had to name, it would be the capsule.

Anyway, it's only one mark either way! Just that when you get people like snow leopard acting as if they are the fountain of all knowledge and talking down and insulting anyone who disagrees it gets annoying! ets wait until the mark scheme.......
