I would say try and get training for kiosk and self service:smile: Though saying this a couple of women who were in my store since it opened 20 years earlier had been asking for exactly that from the beginning and still having no luck  but if you don't ask you'll never get :P

Everyone hates kiosk at my store, self included. I keep being dumped on there although my "training" consisted of literally 2 minutes being shown how to use the lottery machine. Nothing more.
They have positioned out kiosk at the far corner of the stuff, miles from anything else and a long way from the rest of the checkout staff. So, it is pretty lonely over there and often very quiet customer-wise. :frown:

The people at the kiosk in my store have the company of the travel money bureau. But they also suffer by being next to the customer toilets. :lolwut:

That is so wrong. In general. For anyone. For all stories which place staff destinations next to the looks. Ergh. Ever heard of portaloos?

I bet Justin's desk isn't next to the board's jewel toilet :colonhash:
Our kiosk is right beside the front door, which is at the end of the shopping centre. Freezing in the winter because the doors are constantly open and the centre's doors are too because of people going in and out of the car park. :frown:

We actually had one then somebody switched it on one day during the winter and it blew up :colone:
the night shift sucks too. 10 hours with noone to talk to sucks. 10 hours in the freezing cold also sucks (they've never heard of the heater), and apparently they don't think we need lights on either. my eyesight has got terrible since i started there =(

 The night-shift must be awful! The only time I'm in the store after closing is a Sunday for about 2-3 hours depending on how much there is to do, and within 20 minutes of closing time out go the lights and the heating! I count myself lucky that I don't work near the freezers!
I forgot how hot it got working in the bakery in summer. 25 degrees outside today, and hotter inside. They took our fan away because of health and safety, and we've had to shut the shutters to stop birds getting in. At least I only have 2 shifts left before my 3 month break!
I'm really hoping I don't get in too much trouble as I have accidentally missed a shift.

I worked last Thursday as overtime but my boss (who signed me up to the overtime) put me down on the rota for today and not last Thursday - which she said the o/t was for. surely though someone should have told me last week that I shouldn't have been there and that my o/t
was actually for this week. I've never missed a shift and tried to explain on the phone when one of supervisors rang me but I'm not sure how much good that did.
I've lost weight since I started working for sainsburys so now my uniform is way too big for me, do they give out new uniform easily and where do I ask for it i.e manager or HR?

Good luck with that. :/

I still haven't got my uniform. Still wearing a top 1 size too big and a jacket 2 sizes too big from the unwanted box at the first store I was at. They have been washed to death this year.

We had one of those visits on Saturday - from Trading Standards? A 15 year old girl trying to buy tobacco. And she was not challenged. I'm not sure who the individual is but they've got the £80 fine, work disciplinary and apparently there is still debate of it going further. I know there is no excuse and it is always better to be safe than sorry, but I can't having sympathy for whoever it is. The kiosk on a Saturday is always rammed [it's the only day it is busy] and we only ever have 1 member of staff in there. All I can assume is that they were rushed off their feet and made a mistake. :frown:

Meanwhile, I had two customers kick off with me. :frown: First time it has ever happened. They wanted to buy beer but only one had ID and both were borderline for 18 [let alone 25!]. I refused the sale, politely but firmly, explaining that I needed proof of age from both of them. They kept going on and on though, especially the one with ID. He kept saying that he would come back alone and then I would have to serve him. I explained that I would not - no one would - because they had attempted to buy the beer together. After a few minutes of this, the supervisor came over to back me up and eventually security and my male department manager escorted them outside. Typical that it has to happen on my penultimate shift, when it next has before lol.

Anyway, tomorrow is my last shift. I'm excited!

We failed a test purchase on alcohol a few weeks ago. They're sending a few at us now and if we fail again the store will lose it's alcohol license, and the estimation is we'll lose 30% of sales because of it. I don't think we will get caught again, we hadn't been caught before, it was just a lazy supervisor authorising a sale (the person at the checkout was 17) without checking ID.

Our store is like this on the kiosk and when you're rushed off your feet it is a lot harder. We nearly lost the lottery at one point because we failed 2 test purchases, which put so much pressure on the kiosk colleagues. It was really horrible and people get so funny about being ID'd for lottery/scratchcards no matter how many times we explain that the Think 25 policy applies to lottery. Then the management started doing extra test purchases with random people just to add a bit more pressure.
