I'm a bit confused about the whole cot thing... Whose was it? What was the gallifreyan? How did the doctor find out who river was? Sorry if this has been asked before.
It was pretty obvious when the name "Melody Pond" came up, as if wasn't already. I found it a bit anti-climactic tbh. :/

Kazran touched his younger self with no problem. :wink2:

Did he? I really should rewatch the Christmas special tbh
My questions:

How did Kovarian actually get away?

Why couldn't the Doctor tell it wasn't the true baby before? Was it to do with he had never smelt the baby before and therefore couldn't tell the difference?

Was the Doctor's fall the whole realising that he's a great warrior?

How did the Doctor suddenly know where the Baby was being held and why did he go alone?

What significance does Nazi Germany have with the storyline?

Once the Doctor had taken over, why did he send the Judoon and Captain Avery and his men away, when he said he wouldn't leave until they found out what the base was being used for?

Thoughts:

Cockney Jenny- :coma:

damn I've ran out of rep, but that would be so annoying!
did anyone else get the feeling the Doctor didn't actually remember who she was, and had to do the whole hold her face and make a connection thing to see how they met?

maybe i'm just a pessimistic b***h.

Timey-Wimey. It could easily be he meets her in her youth in his future.

Did we find out how Madame Kovarian got hold of Amy?

No we didn't.

Original post by LostInLaw
What I don't get, is River told Amy to try to read the Gallifreyan to understand who she was, yet it was Lorna Bucket's language where the only water was River? So reading the prayer leaf instead was fine, but if Amy had concentrated enough to read the crib, surely it would have said "Melody Pond" or whatever? Likewise, surely the doctor must have those markings on the crib himself, in which case it wouldn't have referred to her as River Song...?

The Tardis doesn't translate Gallifreyan.

Original post by JamesPen
What happend to the Pirate dude (Captain Avery) and his soN??

Jenny was just telling those around the TARDIS about them when she was interupted. I think she was saying they'd gone as it was just after 'The Spitfires have been returned to their own time'.

Regarding a future episode.

Anyone notice the phrase "I'm a nurse" popped up again? Wonder where they're going with that. Are they going for Doctor/Nurse wordplay for the role of Rory?

Yes. I did and immeditely said whilst watching it, that keeps being said. Can anyone remember if it was said at any point in the ganger episodes as it's the only one I can't remember it being said at any point.

If she turns out to be the little girl in the astronaut suit as well then she definitely kills the doctor, as we saw it happen.

She got out of the Spacesuit in 1969, therefore it doesn't have to be her in it again in 2011 does it?

Original post by Yoghurt
I'm sure thats about 4 times that Balloons have either appeared or been mentioned in this series, is there something in that or am I reading too much into it???

Bit like 'I'm a nurse' keeps cropping up.

Original post by student777
I could so see that coming... Bit of a disappointment I have to say. And we know the baby must survive everything now, because she grows up to be river!

To use the phrase from the series, time can be rewritten. The baby might survive but the real question is, does she turn out as intended?

Original post by jjmo
Unlike last episode which was made by the end this fantastic well plotted clever episode was ruined by the obvious end.

However this brings along more questions.

Can River Regenerate? If so is she actually dead in the library can she be brought back however she does say it will kill you stone dead and don't think you will regenerate.

Is River the little girl?

Where has Madame Ovativan gone - I'm sure she will be dealt with.

Original post by Bella Occhi
So if River's part Time Lord and can presumably regenerate (assuming she's the little girl) does that mean she didn't really die in the library?

Yes she is 'dead' in the library, she says that neither or the Doctor have the chance to survive the eletric shock.

Original post by Colonel.
Doctor still hasn't fallen yet, just when it looked like he might. C'mon. It's Tennant level invincibility here.

See above, he could have done or it could be that it will be in the second half.

I think that the Silence made Amy preggers since in ep 2 they said they were doing her a 'great honour' or something. I know in the trailer that Rory calls the baby his child but I don't believe it's either the Doctor's or Rory's, it is the Silence's weapon. I don't really know what will happen to the baby either since it's not as if they're going lug it around space for the rest of the series...

This is my thought as well and is a pointer to this being Amy and Rory's last series in my opinion.

Original post by Corkscrew
When did that get corrupted though?

Power of the Silence, even a picture of them will forget, therefore the video won't last for hundreds of generations.
I think what is quite ridiculous about the 'A good man goes to war' episode, is that it goes straight into a climax, as opposed to a carefully constructed climax of a couple (e.g. 4/5) episodes. Not to say that Moffat isn't a good writer..its just that the way the stories are planned as illogical and unrealistic, of course it is science fiction, but there is no way a carefully constructed plot could fall so easily.. notably: a) They could've shot the Doctor on the spot, theres no possible way you could imagine the doctor getting out of that situation (unless the TARDIS materialised over him or something, lol) and b)Would a 'primitive' sonic screwdriver really turn off a forcefield? Idk... It doesn't seem that the headless monks had a viable plan . Plus I dont know about others, but I'm starting to get slightly annoyed with the fact the word 'today' is used so much, its a bit over-used and depreciates the essence of tension and atmosphere.

Overall I'd say it was good enough.. but I definitely wouldn't say it was thoroughly original.. it seemed like another copy of an expectedly triumphant yet simultaneously mysterious and epically dangerous scenario for the Doctor, as opposed to a less MASSIVE universally hazardous event that threatens the fabric of 'space and time'. That may just me being slightly picky, but at the end of the day, I don't really feel genuine anticipation for the show AS MUCH as series 4. Thats my opinion, I'm sure others like the episodes, and I can see why, its just I think its eventually having a converse affect of creating a seemingly 'artificial' climax. Yes, its been thought out, but It doesn't seem brilliant in my opinion :P.

She left with Colonel Runaway and the Clerics, she must of (amazingly!) escaped the Judoon.

Probably, he couldn't tell Amy was a ganger straight away

Either that or he falls next episode...

Who knows, but it's something to do with Hitler if the title's anything to go by :unimpressed:

Not sure about where Avery and his son went, but the Judoon were escorting the Clerics (and supposedly Colonel Runaway and Kovarian) off Demon's Run

If it was all about the children, I don't think there would be very much killing at all. But you never know...

More on that note, did any of you think 'Lets kill Hitler' is a slightly inappropriate title? I mean, even for the BBC that is a bit controversial, Hitler himself is such as controversial figure, and so is the word 'killing' in a title, plus even recollecting Hitler's regime is touchy. I'm not personally affected by the title, but isn't it slightly more provoking than one would imagine for a (seemingly) kids targetted series?

Primitive? The screwdriver's epic  It does everything (except wood, but tbh this is a new one to Tennant's so maybe it can do wood )

I don't really know how you can say the screwdriver is primitive tbh... :s-smilie:

I just think it sounds silly as a title personally...and maybe a bit controversial :dontknow:
(edited 12 years ago)
How has no one mentioned the tongue or do I have an extremely dirty mind?

You know the Victorian Siluran's tongue in the scene in which she's talking to her lesbian lover - Jenny and she asks Jenny why she puts up with her and then the incredibly long tongue comes out and they share a knowing look.

Did no one else see that?
Regarding the 'I'm a nurse' comment. I thought it was meant to highlight the contrasting journeys of Rory and the Sontaran. Rory started out as a nurse and became a Warrior/Centurion while the Sontaran was a warrior who became a nurse.

Anyway there may be more to it than that but I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

It's a silly and amusing title. It is not controversial or provoking.
Did anyone get the last episode? I just watched (admitedly with one eye on the pc every now and then), however i couldn't understand what happened. Amy gave birth, the dr and her husband came to resuce her but the baby was kidnapped because she is special:curious:. Who's the woman with the eye patch, and what's the deal with the doctors friend/gf with the wavy hair? Is she from the past or the future? Is she the doctors wife, whilst being amy a rorys daughter at the same time?

Ahh my brain!

So arguably the most mind-set genocidalist the planet has seen isn't controversial to recite in a violent manner? I disagree. I find it slightly amusing, but I definitely wouldn't undermine the fact that it simply is provoking by SOME. Even if one person is offended that still counts as provoking, that isn't to say I find it provoking.

I thought that as well to be fair. Going to wait for the episode before I make a full judgement thought.

What I don't understand about the cot is why couldn't the doctor read the Gallifreyan on the side?

What makes you say that, of course he could. :curious:

I'm much more interested in who else's name is on there unless it literally is just the Doctor's and it is long like the names you get in South America.

Original post by Stargatecrazy
Wait, River says the TARDIS won't translate the Gallifreyan written on the cot, yet on Planet One when she's graffitied 'Hello Sweetie' onto the cliff-face in Gallifreyan, the TARDIS translates it for Amy to be able to read :holmes:

Plot hole or Moffat? :holmes:

I don't think that that was written in Gallifreyan.

But the fact that everyone in series 5 said they "ran from the silence"? Could this just be a decoy to make us think that the silence are deadly? When in reality they aren't?

But but but...they killed Joy for no apparent reason :s-smilie:

Not really although it could be used in the future like it was in the past.

My main question is where has the Doctor went now?

I get the feeling that where he has went is to is River's first meeting with him, young impressionable girl - "He dropped out of the sky in his box." Maybe it's at the point where she finishes regenerating in that 1970s alley. But then, why wouldn't he take her back to the Amy? Why would someone else need to raise her?

Also why was she needing life support? Why did the suit eat her? Why did it take 6 months to regenerate? If she's a weapon against the Doctor, how does she become so? Do they manipulate her thinking, wipe her memory? So many questions.

I really hope Kovarian gets it. Bitch escaped.

And how does he know where to go?

If it is River in 1969 why go for an older River and not baby River?

Original post by Altruistic1
There's no denying that River kills the Doctor. Who else buys tardis-blue stationery?

What's the blue stationary got to do with killing the doctor?

Original post by Madjackismad
This will probably be the explanation. It's pretty obvious, no? Moffat won't just create such awesome monsters such as The Silence and then never use them again in the same way that he used the Weeping Angels again.

The Silents are suppose to be the big bad in this series. Probably safe to say thay they'll be back

It's a title. An episode title. There is nothing offensive or provoking about the episode title because we have absolutely no idea how it will play out. We don't know that they'll try to kill Hitler. We don't know what will happen until we actually see the episode. Therefore it would be ridiculous to get offended or provoked about it now. I think it's intriguing, amusing and funny. In fact it's more of a bait as it reels people in and makes them speculate but on the face of it and with the little information we have at the moment, it is not controversial.
What really struck me about the episode is that at the end when the doctor is very happy and secure about where to get the baby, if it technically hasn't happened yet, how does the doctor know? I think its just timey wimey, but it still makes my head hurt.

So has it been mentioned why Rory decided to play dress-up in this episode?

When Amy was talking to Melody at the start, she implied that the Lone Centurion was a well-known warrior - so maybe it was to command the respect needed to summon an army, and walk into the command ship of the 12th Cyber Legion?

More interestingly, how does River plan on taking them home? The Doctor took the TARDIS, and I doubt those little spaceship things are fast enough to get the back to Earth in less than a decade...
Just a thought - usually, the series would be finished well before the next series started filming. But with part 6b being shown in the autumn, surely filming photos would leak and we'd know who the next companion would be before the end of the series? This is assuming filming starts in July/August, but I might be wrong or that's the Christmas special. Which is more likely :s-smilie:
