also, did the 'science' bit in the DNA essay question refer to science in the body? as in semi conservative replication etc???
Lol I just don't understand why they made that paper so brutally difficult. I mean surely they learnt from that unit 4 paper with all the shrew stuff? And even that paper wasn't as bad as this. Its like the unit 4 papers got better but unit 5 got worse.

Same :| I just want A*AA though, PC4 ruined maths A*, but thinking biology should be an A* after that :smile:. So kinda relaxed about chem as I think I only need roughly an E to get A overall :tongue: Still going to try for A* though, so best get revising :frown:
why do they give us such a gay paper LOOOOOOL
compared to june 2010 paper, june 2010 was so easy compared to this
i hope grade obuadnries are low then i can get C in this fkin gay unit!!!!!!!

Hehe underneath the table it told you what they both were. Took me a good few looks before I spotted them. Would of been much better to have the information above the table, but yeah it's AQA.

For the lysosome question i put something along the lines of: Over time the number of them would decrease, as during the pupal stage organic matter is broken down (which the lysosomes would play part in), so the older the pupae got the less matter is broken down so the fewer lysosomes there would be.

Really didn't have a clue on that question.

Didn't think the exam was too bad overall, although there was an awful lot of stuff that required synoptic knowledge and ofcourse the typical AQA ambiguous questions :frown:.

I feel sorry the marker who gets my essay. Had to ask for extra paper :frown: Ended up writing 8 A4 pages on cycles

I spoke about aerobic and anaerobic respiration. If there is no trachea then to produce energy, anaerobic respiration must occur which is why there was high enzyme activity. And then vice versa for the other enzyme

i put 75% but (hate to admit this) i sat there and counted the squares... 15 for the nerve, 5 for the hormone...75%


Sorry to be an ass but..
There was 2 for the hormone, and 8 for the nervous thing (in the unit of measurements)
That means there was 10 whatevers produced overall...
8/10 x 100 = 80%
off to revise chem5 now!!!! last exam so gonna put in all the effort into this!!!!!!!!

If the tracheae are broken down the pupa (i think it was pupa) can't get any oxygen so it starts respiring anaerobically. activity of enzyme B will therefore increease as it plays a part in the conversion of pyruvate to lactate. After 6 days the activity of B decreases and activity of A increases as the thracheae start to reform. Meaning the pupa can get oxygen, so enzyme A actvity will increase as the Kreb's cycle is now being used in aerobic respiration more

Yeah I'm not trying to be picky :colondollar: but they should make it clear. I said they were totipotent cause they developed into any cell type, so it may be wrong

What did people get for the question on naa. On why/how an increase in temperature leads to an increase in uptake of naa

8/10 * 100 = 80...


It was 2 our of 8. It was definitely 75%

i talked about stomata, cuticle and temeperature effect on the rate of diffusion for these questions??
what did people get for the difference in yield variables, and also on why tssue culture is better etc

If I remember rightly it was something about as RNA increased, Lysosomes increased? Or vice versa.

I put Lysosomes are vesicles of enzymes, enzymes are proteins, and protein synthesis requires RNA, so as RNA increased so did protein synthesis, hence more Lysosomes.
