Hey reapplicants! Just seeing how people are getting along!
If you want to ask me anything, I'll try and help. Looks like people are making progress with jobs and alike, I remember it well last year.

Woww I just saw your sig! Like wtf!
Please shed some light on the UKCAT for me, booked it for 1st of next month
I'm hopeless at AR so i really wanna get a super high score in something i sort of get like QR or DA so that the overall score is decent
Or do you recommend just trying to bring AR up?

Well that might work, but a really low AR will drag everything down.
AR for me was about practice and then marking the tests until I had pretty much seen it all.
I actually did the Kaplan course, which costs a lot of money. There are some time saving techniques they'll tell you but mostly I didn't use their methods, even for AR. What I will say though is that their practice material is top notch, far better than 600Qs simply because it's aimed at the right level and there are 6 full length tests IIRC.
After marking all those I was still scared, but come test day I spotted nearly every pattern, so it's all about familiarisation. Get hold of as much material as you can, some patterns are bound to come up or be related in some way. Kaplan isn't necessary, although I do like them since they just gave me a job!
Like you, I found QR and DA easy, DA especially, I didn't translate them on the whiteboard, I did them mostly in my head so I wasn't pushed at all. Don't feel the need to do that though.

So I'd recommend bringing AR up and doing really well in the other sections.

The more practice you do the less nervous you'll be and that helps as well.

If you need anything else/more just ask!

Good luck!

amazed at your sig... what do you think you did wrong first year round, and how did you improve it?
INTERVIEW FOR ACCESS TO MEDICINE NEXT THURSDAY! Awesome news, completely unexpected as I haven't heard from Stow for so long  This means direct access to Aberdeen, Dundee, and Glasgow med schools  woohoo!

Wish me luck! Hopefully I won't **** it up this time...

Thanks! I guess practise is the only way then
To be fair, the shapes are sort of starting to make sense and compared to last year, i don't feel i'll go into the exam unprepared (all i did was the 2 UKCAT practise tests), it's just that getting a high score would definately be an advantage! Fingers crossed!

Congrats and good luck!

I am a little confused though - thought access was for grads without science background or people who have been away from education for a while - given you have just done your highers would this not exclude you from this course?

I had all my interviews last year and was terrible in them. Plus I had a UKCAT issue for Edinburgh. See my last post for that one.
Interviews were the big thing. I knew I would get them because on paper everything was there. I had to build confidence and realised how good my answers had to be. I had a job, did quite a lot of stuff and had a fair few interviews so the process didn't scare me as much.
As for quality of answers it's about preparation. Preparing the usual questions and having examples of things you've done/seen with some points you can develop about what they showed you/what you learned/what they prove to the interviewer. You can use them for multiple questions and always have something related to talk about.
Plus I found when talking about past experiences I spoke with more tone and enthusiasm and coughed up less waffle.

Absolutely.

Well that's good, it took me ages.

A high UKCAT is something of an advantage, yes!
Good luck!
This thread is dead.
Either you're all buried in the 600 UKCAT question book or you're still on holiday/in hibernation/alcohol-induced comas..

Haha i recovered from mine quickly cos my mum told me to book the UKCAT early (before results day) and start revising for it now, otherwise she wouldn't pay for it/the books. She's so bossy kind

Aha thanks but i was lucky that my mum works in a specialist cancer hospital and had done many doctors/nurses a few favours so she pretty much landed me an interview
That gave me like 15minutes to wow the ward sister , the rest is history
