Smashed my knee against a table at work last week and now I can't extend my leg properly against resistance. Happy times.

I stopped reading when I saw someone describe the salary of a GP as a "starting salary" as a criticism for how high it is.

"The problem is forgetting. Doctors forget their training. I hear it all the time. They constantly have to re-read about diseases. By Super nurses I do mean generic supernurses yes. My argument is that there performance would be no worse than doctors and no I don't believe they would need to have a lengthy time for medical training. They should specialise in referrals from the second year.

GPs, understanding of psychiatry is very variable and often no better than the layman (they simply read off a generic sheet about classic signs and symptoms).

Regarding the old woman. You would treat the urinary tract infection, and consider psychological / neurological intervention. (GP had earlier commented their morning clinic had included amongst other things a 93yr old woman with dizzy spells, memory problems and a UTI)."
lots of people arguing for direct access to specialists there, what a nightmare that would be

That person is an absolute joke, not only do they not understand what GPs do but, more worryingly, they are sure they do. also particularly enjoyed the retort;

"Most of a super-nurse's job doing a GP's job could instead be done by a super-duper St John's Ambulance volunteer for nothing, so why should we pay the inflated salaries of these arrogant super-nurses? In fact most super-duper St. John's Ambulance volunteer's jobs could be done by mega-super-duper Googlers with none of those expensive and unnecessary St John's Ambulance volunteer's training courses."
Anyone seen this case?

The family and the former partner of a woman in a “minimally aware” state are asking the High Court in London to rule that she should have artificial feeding withdrawn and be allowed to die.

Her older sister said the 51 year old woman, named only as M, would prefer death to being permanently dependent on others for her care.

The case is the first in which the court has been asked to allow artificial nutrition and hydration to be discontinued where the patient is deemed to be not quite in a persistent vegetative state. The official solicitor, representing the patient, opposes the application, arguing that she has some awareness.

M, a former hairdresser, was struck with viral encephalitis as she was about to go on holiday with her partner, S, in February 2003. The couple had been together since their early twenties.

S wept as he told the court: “It’s not about us at all. We can only speak up for her, nothing more. We are her voice. We have no ulterior motive. We just know who she was and her opinions.”

M’s older sister, known as B, also wept as she insisted that it was cruel to keep her alive. “I know in my heart of hearts that she would not want to live like that. She cannot enjoy a drink, a cup of tea or anything. She has got no pleasures in life. Just a daily routine of being taken out of bed, put in a chair and put back in bed. Shower, doubly incontinent. It is just awful. It’s not life. It’s existence. And I know she would not want that,” she told the court.

Staff at the care home where she lives say they have seen slight signs of awareness in M, such as appearing to react to people and moving her hand in time to music. But M and S argued that she would never return to being the person she once was.

After being in a coma for several weeks, M was diagnosed as being in a persistent vegetative state, but this was later changed to a minimally conscious state, just above a persistent vegetative state. Her life expectancy is estimated at about 10 years.

Caroline Harry Thomas, for the official solicitor, argued that it would be illegal to withdraw artificial nutrition and hydration from someone who was medically stable and in a minimally conscious state.

The case is continuing with evidence expected from care home staff and legal and medical experts.

Finally got around to completing MGS2. Excellent game, the ending was a bit, eh? though. Does anybody know if there are any books around based in the universe? I've completed Peace walker, MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3. Whenever I look at wiki pages to explain things there always seems to be loads of information that has not come from these games. I don't include portable ops because it wasn't cannon.

Now, to try to "attain" a PS3 and complete the fourth one before the end of the summer...

I wonder why the family member of the patient is pushing for this,
Is she making the decision over her life because of what "she thinks would be best" or another reason, e.g. the patient talking about choosing death in a situation like this before the illness, i know my dad says quite clearly that is what he'd want the "plug pulled".

Yeah, some sort of action game spin off. Haven't followed it much tbh, saw the trailer from last years E3 and my excitment was killed when I saw it wasn't a "proper" MGS.

I'm fairly sure there are graphic novels. I have the MGS1 one, hopefully there are more.

Did you read the "book" about the events at Shadow Moses on the MGS2 disk?

I was about to until I noticed it was 120 pages odd. Didn't want to read that much on the TV. I might track it down online and read it off my comp in a .pdf or something. I assumed it would only tell me what I already knew about Shadow Moses though? I figured it was there for people who hadn't completed the first game.

Kinda tempted to download an emulator and play the first two Metal Gears on my psp on the plane home
Never played a MGS game (never owned a PS), feel like I've missed out though. Closest I've got I guess is Splinter Cell (which is awesome btw).
Always HATED MGS. Just endless cutscenes that drive me bonkers! Sorry guys...

The commenter neuron really needs to change his name to moron.

I have wasted loads of time reading stupid comments and should probably stop but it's addictive! It's scary how many clueless people think they know everything. Thanks for posting the link.

I never got on with MGS, although some games can pull off the endless cutscenes.. the Final Fantasy games (especially 7 through 10) were excellent. I think the superior soundtrack of the FFs made a big difference.

Whilst I'm not much of a gamer anymore, the games that really do it for me are racing games... can't wait for my flatmate to bring his 360 and forza.. :borat:
