I'm looking to apply for St.Andrews for 2012 entry for "Economics and Modern History" however I'm struggling with writing a personal statement that incorporates them both.

If I change that, to apply for just Modern History, is the option of doing a joint honours closed ?, i.e After my 1st and 2nd year can I choose to do a joint honours ?

There aren't any for Advanced Highers according to the Prospectus for 2012 entry. They base it on Highers which is AAAAB.

I don't think Advanced Higher qualifications are a requirement for entering university, although they will be considered.

For 2012 entry, from their prospectus, the entry requirements stated are:

•

You must sit the UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) in the summer of the year in which you apply.

•

AAAAB at Higher, including Chemistry at Grade A, and one other of Biology, Mathematics or Physics. These grades should normally be obtained in one sitting, unless this is not possible.

•

If you don't have Higher Biology or Mathematics, you are expected to have a Standard Grade in that subject at credit level.

•

You must also have a credit standard grade in English, or a higher qualification.

•

Note that Higher Human Biology is acceptable in place of Higher Biology.

In addition to these requirements, it also states some recommendations for your sixth year at school:

•

Advanced Higher Chemistry and Advanced Higher Biology are welcomed.

•

If taking a gap year instead of further study, this should be used to gain experience relevant to a medical career.

So, you don't need Advanced Highers, but they are welcomed.

BTW, congratulations on being able to apply! I have had my heart set on Medicine for a while now, but unfortunately I've just received my exam results to be AAABB. Darn!

Aw I got them grades last year. Couldn't stop crying.. I know how exactly how you feel..however you have hope! Apply to Dundee and Aberdeen, that's what I did. Although you will need a KILLER personal statement and an amaaaazing UKCAT. What were your B's in?

I was wanting to apply again for medicine this yea since I got rejected, so was wondering what St Andrews wanted. I don't think I'll be able to apply with my B in AH Bio though. Urgh FML.

Nope. St Andrews is really flexible in that way. As long as you do economics as one of your extra modules in first and second year, you can carry it on to honours (3rd and 4th year) really easily. You can even change from modern history to economics or do joint honours. Or you can even take something up as your third module and end up with a degree in that if you want. One of the best things about St Andrews is the flexible system.

Most probably. I have applied for entry into joint honours Physics & Chemistry for 2011/2012. When I went to an open day, I was told by members of staff that if I met my conditions for Physics (which I have) and don't meet them for Chemistry (waiting on results tomorrow), then I could still come in through Physics and do a joint honours exactly the same.

Okay, I'm new to this, so please go easy on me!

Well, I'm Scottish, and I'm in 5th year. I'm hoping to do a French course at St. Andrews university. Their entry requirements for that are AABB.

I got my exam results yesterday, and I got AABCC. One of the C's was totally expected, but one I'm a little bit disappointed about.

Anyway, I clearly haven't met the entry requirements. But, one of my A's was in Higher French.

I'm doing Advanced Higher French this year, so, do you think that if I get a good grade in that, and perhaps the two other AHs that I'm doing (English and Modern Studies) I'll be considered, even though I didn't meet the requirements?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, or something. I've only ever posted once before, and that was in February, so I'm a bit lost!

Unfortunately my Bs were in Chemistry :O and Modern Studies.
I'm especially annoyed about Chemistry because I had an A in my prelim, but because of my second prelim, based on Unit 2, I can't apply for anything more than a B.
But I'm planning on doing Advanced Higher Chemistry, so maybe they would be willing to take that into account.

I don't know if they look at Standard Grades, but I managed to do OK in those! :L :smile:

Oh yeah, forgot most start in October. But Leceister uni and a couple of other places [can't remember where, but remember someone telling me] end in July - albeit the beginning of July but still July.

First of, is there any chance of an appeal in the subject you got a C in that wasn't expected? If you write a really good PS (you can use the PS help service on TSR if you want, check out the links in my sig below), you may have a chance. Nobody can really say except the admissions officer when they receive your application I'm afraid. It is possible you'd be given a conditional. Good luck and well done on the results! :smile:

in the course catalouge, they say we do learn 3 subjects in the first semester, and then u chose ur subject u want to specialise in for honours degree. Then is it possible to graduate with 3 or more degree? For example Econ,Math and IR? Is this possible?

Triple Honours (as it's known) is possible but they don't advise it unless you get some knockout exam results in 1st/2nd year. What most people do is study three subjects for the first two years then drop one or two and do Single/Joint Honours for the last two years of the MA Hons.

Go through a website such as comparethemarket.com or moneysupermarket.com, enter the car's registration number and your details and it will give you a quote. The price of the insurance will be dependent on the car, your driving history and in general (it often seems) just random chance...

Buying a car takes no time at all as long as you've found what you're looking for. It is also quick to get insurance but rather costly if you don't buy a small (engine) car. I was £1800 in first year then £1200 in 2nd year for insurance on a 1.2/1.4 Renault Clio from 2001 worth about £1000.

Now that i've recieved my exam results and my offer has changed to unconditional will I get my accomadation information soon or will I be waiting to around the time the English students get their results back too?
