The thing about the distracting shine made me laugh out loud.
Really, Oxford are just letting anybody in these days. People who can't tell the difference between pens and not moving and people who are distracted by their writing tools. Shameful.

Exams are getting easier etc etc

I'll stop preaching then and simply pray that we both find awesome bars in which to relax and socialise

I know right, obviously my mum only bought me a nice pen so that I'd fit in where I clearly don't belong
It's cool though, I got a matt black one with lines on it (partially because I have a friend called Matt Black, and it humoured me, and partially because for some reason the lines reminded me of the matrix)

Sounds like a plan. I feel there will be a lot of hunting around Oxford for cool bars during Fresher's!

But you said Celtic! Not fair. How easy is it to find places like that? Again, I'm sure Oxford will yield something good.

Well I did mean Celtic folk, but even then the cheesy Irish bars you get in places like Majorca really aren't what I'm talking about!
I've not found that many, but I've never looked properly for any length of time in a city like Oxford

You could try the Half Moon in St Clements... If you put it into google you'll come up with their home page. Also, if you like folk music Oxford hosts its very own folk festival every year around April which is usually quite cheap. Also, there's a pretty comprehensive list of Oxford clubs, bars, events etc at www.dailyinfo.co.uk which will give you an idea of what kind of stuff there is

That's great!
Thank you very much

Edit: That place looks just about right, actually. Might be somewhere I can regularly spend my Sunday evenings....

That's alright  It's also right on La Cucina which is probably the best Italian restaurant in Oxford, and Moya which is an amazing Slovakian restaurant. It's fairly expensive but as a one-off the food is exceptional and their cocktails are pretty good too!

Slovakian food?
Now that's something I've never tried before!

I'd certainly like to dine out somewhere nice at least once a fortnight.

I know! Neither had I but I was pleasantly surprised, it's amazing. There are tonnes of good places in Oxford; The Big Bang in Jericho only does sausages but it really works for some reason; aforementioned La Cucina, Bella Pasta in Jericho, Jamals and Aziz for Indian, Chequers in the centre does excellent pub food as does the Kings Arms - the Trout Inn and the Red Lion in Wolvercote are really good if you fancy a long walk first :P Al-Andulas is good for tapas...the list goes on and obviously there are good chains as well.

Just to get back to the dress topic - I went to Tesco's here in Czech today and found this really really great dress - it looked really expensive, but the label said it was discounted to 700 CZK (cca 23 quid) so I got really happy, tried it on and it fitted just perfectly, so I went on to buy it  I was very happy when at the till I found out they were VERY discounted, at 255 CZK (about 8 quid) So I got a very fancy and beautiful and amazing dress for less than a tenner! If I'm honest I don't really care that they're just Tesco's, nobody will be able to tell that, rightttt?
Does anybody know if Supermarkets sell Irn Bru in Oxford? Or do I need to stock up big time before I arrive..

There's a Tescos across the road from you. If that fails, there's a Sainsburys in the shopping center, a Tescos and Sainsburys on Magdalen street (north end of cornmarket), a Sainsburys east of Magdalen college.

I'd be pretty shocked if you couldn't get Irn Bru anywhere in Oxford. I do admire your commitment to your chosen soft drink, though

Ah, good. If not I'll just have to get the family to bring me some when they visit!

I was just wondering, you'd be surprised at the lack of Irn Bru in the town next to us. And I can't have any of those cheap supermarket copies! They just don't taste the same.

Does anyone know how much breakfast, lunch, dinner cost at Exeter College?

"Meals in Hall are charged at the cost of supplies; approximate prices in Michaelmas Term are: Continental Breakfast £1.20, Lunch £2.30, Tuesdays and Thursdays 2nd Hall 3 course dinner £4.45. Individual courses can be purchased separately for first Hall (80p £2.85 80p). [The College will hold the food prices at the 2009/10 level. This will be reviewed at the end of Michaelmas Term, and the College reserves the right to increase the price of meals if the cost of food has risen significantly.] In addition, there are termly catering charges, payable in advance by all Junior Members in residence, which vary according to location of accommodation. The catering charge, which covers some of the cost of kitchen overheads, applies to weeks 0-9 inclusive. No food or drink from outside College may be brought into Hall without the prior permission of the Catering Manager."
Just saw this and it made me really want to be in Oxford - right now!

Damn the late start..:frown:

Ahh folk music . Do you think I'll have to try really hard to find someone who will go to a folk festival with me? :colondollar:

EDIT: http://oxfordfolkfestival.co.uk although this one doesn't look too promising...
