It's so amazing that we have the internet. I've found that Christians so often seem to condemn it (for obvious reasons) but it is an amazing tool for fellowship like this and spiritual growth (I've grown more from audio sermons online than I have from my church's teaching, I feel) and for witnessing too.

They are from right near me in Scotland (I think?) They were huge in my area but I didn't realise anyone else had even heard of them.

Just finished skyping my parents - they were less than impressed by the immaturity and debauchery demonstrated by those right outside my room. My dad expected it (very similar experiences from uni) but my mom was really sad. My mom told me to pray for them which was really encouraging.

So, the end of fresher's week and I effectively know no-one, perhaps one or two people I could call "friends". Praying and hoping this picks up. I feel that I could so easily drift through uni socialising very little, but this would completely defeat the point of me even being here!

Church tomorrow, I think I've picked the one I'm going to go to (St Andrews Baptist, been recommended by someone in my church plus the website seems very God-glorfying and missions orientated which are huge pluses for me) and the CU seems active in getting people to church on Sunday (meeting in town at designated times beforehand to walk people there, I'm hoping it will be good both socially and spiritually, especially since there's a shared lunch afterwards and the church runs a lot of student clubs and the like).

Yeah they are from near you! Pretty famous now, played freshers this year, were at T in the Park etc. They are playing O2 Academy which shows just how famous they are now!

Don't worry, freshers is so tricky! Give it a few weeks, you'll make friends, once courses start and you can get stuck into CU and church etc :yep:

Thanks I really appreciate it. Looking forward to much to a bible study starting up in my halls on Monday plus I'm going along to a tea party tomorrow and will (hopefully, definitely, maybe, I'll be praying that God gives me strength) talk to lots of people there.

I have a hard time socialising in party sort of situations (ie. fancy dress parties or whatever) even with people that I do know so this week has been humbling and to an extent crippling for me.
I know God is allowing me to go through it for a reason. A verse which God used to minister to me last February (when the new semester at bible college started and there were lots of newbies there) was 2 Corinthians 12:9, about God's strength being made perfect in my weakness. I know God will get me through all of this and be glorified through it all (which I have told myself so many times is my "mission statement" for uni). I don't want to lose sight of Him.

We should remember to pray for Israel. I'm not too sure about what's going on (perhaps someone can enlighten?) but my friend Kristin was telling me that it's incredibly tense, lots of fears about riots, scores of armed policemen on every corner ready to shoot and the Israeli government censoring political speeches or whatnot (they were watching it and then about 20 minutes in every channel which was supposed to be showing the speech somehow "lost signal"). Something to do with Palestine becoming a state or something?

I believe we should be praying that God's will ultimately be done over the whole political affair, and that God would bring peace in that region. She was telling me that because of the US's position globally, US/UK citizens may become a target so we should be praying for that also. I don't want to be so self-centred but for an idea of the intensity, all of them at bible college in Jerusalem have to have almost like a survival kit with them at all times so they can be evacuated to bomb shelters at a second's notice.

God wouldn't let you go through this if you couldn't cope with it! If you ever need help or just someone to rant at I'm here :smile:

Thank you so much. I have been so ridiculously unbelievably blessed by kind words from godly Christian friends. It was amazing my missionary in Ethiopia friend is going through the same sort of stuff spiritually and we had an amazing time of edifying each other yesterday morning and the Spirit was totally there.

Hi people is there a way to confess/be absolved from your sins/be forgiven to go into heaven as there are some sins I personally would not feel comfortable saying in front of someones face. :erm:

Also How would anyone go about becoming a born again Christian or born again catholic rather.

Man I'm praying for you right now. All you need to do is look to the cross, see Jesus there dying to forgive you for your sins, and freely receive the gift of forgiveness that He offers. He died so He could forgive us so that we could be reconciled to God for all eternity in loving joy and fellowship.

I know the feeling of guilt and shame well (did some INCREDIBLY shameful things that have been haunting me lately, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to tell anyone about them, not even my wife (when I get one haha)).
Isaiah 1:18 - "Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

Confess to Jesus, repent and turn from your sin and embrace Him. Pray that He would make Himself known to you and that He would forgive you (He will!)

I believe there are still some Catholic churches that use the traditional box thing where the priest can't see your face. It would just be a matter of finding such a church.

For born again Catholic, you should ask your local priest about the RCIA (think I got that acronym right!) :smile:

You just need to pray, be honest and sincere and then strive to make a change and live according to your belief in Christ. Salvation and repentance are not privy to anyone but you and God and no one can offer you that except God. If you do go by the Catholic ideal though, as Goatherd said, you could go to an anonymous confession.

And then go along to the RCIA :smile:

Hi. I'm becoming a Catholic at the moment so I might be able to help. The sacrament of Confession, though it can be embarrassing is good in that it humbles us, it makes us look deeply at our own inequities and throw them at the the feet of Christ in the Priest. And if you're not comfortable doing face to face then you can: A) Go to anonymous Confession or: B) Go to a priest in another parish who doesn't know you. Appraoching the sacrament, from people that I know, have found it to be one of the greatest experiences they know; feeling totally cleansed and progressing into real Holiness through the sacramental grace. After this keep up regular Confession if you want to grow in Holiness, at least once a month and hopefully twice a month (you can only do this however if you are baptised a Catholic). After this start attending Mass, as much as you can, even if you don't recieve the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Just to be in the presence of the risen Christ is amazing! I try and go three times a week at the moment and I find this useful.

TLG idea of appraching an RCIA group is an excellent idea as well, you get a real sense of community and will find people of genuine holiness. However, something I found with my RCIA group was that most of the people on it were, perhaps, a tad advanced in age. So if your parish has a youth group try and get involved! And if you can, get involved with this group. They're simply amazing and really helped me. And lastly come on over to TSR's Catholic Society, we're a dead nice bunch and can give you any advice you need on the faith :smile:
