Drinks and food stolen, what to do?

Last night some of the members of the halls where I am staying had a party lasting until 6 am I came down to breakfast this morning to find all my drinks stolen, food missing and what's left of the food thrown all over the lawn. Should the girl who organised the party pay me back she claims she doesn't know who did it but surely she's responsible for her guests?

In these kind of situations it's not worth making enemies of your flatmates over £20 of food. I suggest you keep the food in your room and bring it into the kitchen to cook.

Talk to whoever is in charge at your halls and see.

Yep, nothing like keeping frozen or foods for the fridge in your own room . Oh.. wait.. 0.0

Ask her to make a contribution - especially if the drinks were alcohol - request that, in future, any food/drink that goes missing is recompensed, and that the kitchen be out of bounds (unles it's your only place to socialise, bit harsh then!)
As it's the first time, make sure it's clear you don't approve, but don't kick up a huge fuss and alienate people. If it happens again, demand she pay you back and report it to a warden to avoid being taken advantage of if you're seen as weak.

1. Effective mini fridges cost quite a lot. Any cheap ones will not cool food enough.
2. These do not cover freezer food.
3. Halls are often against the use of mini fridges. You can get away with it, but some halls are stricter than others and thus not worth the risk :frown:

Sure, keep bread, tins of beans etc in your room, and alcohol and squash etc too but for the rest someone is going to have to say something or deal with it. Unfortunately.

Imaginary rep as I have run out.
Consult a lawyer? Maybe get a sniffer dog? i just dont know.
Well you can't force her to pay, and if you have the money it's probably not worth making enemies over it. However, I wouldn't now feel any qualms about using her milk in the fridge and such, it's not like she has a leg to stand on if she complains.

If it becomes a regular thing, I would report it to the people in charge of your hall, and probably request a flat change. If it happens more than twice, I would think it's not worth even trying to be friends, and if she won't pay up, just use whatever food of hers is available until you next planned to go shopping.

However, if it's a lot of alchohol (like £50 or more) I would kick up more of a fuss and in future keep it all in your room.

1.In my uni they gave you a minifridge in your own room for free.
2. It had a freezer compartment
3. Why would they be? So the kitchen stays cleaner??
Keep what you can in your room and learn from it that some people are ****s.

Accept it, it's part of living in halls.

I don't own a mini-fridge and to 098 why should I have to put up with it? I am not made of money and that's £35 from my budget gone already.

That's tricky, if she's a halfway decent person she'd at least say sorry rather than just "I don't know them so it's not my problem" what a female canine.

on everything you own scrawl your name hugely all over it and please dont steal
then put everything you put in the fridge in a box with your name on it and same in freezer. Went to boarding school, if it didnt have "JESSICA'S!! DO NOT EAT!!!" for example on it, it might as well have said "please eat me!"
As for what you've lost, tricky. I guess just tell her you're not super happy that you've lost all your food and if she has a party again to ask people not to consume others' food. In a diplomatic way that doesnt ask anything of her. (this will be hard but its the adult thing to do)...
sorry about your extra food + drinks bill!!
every time it happens just use up her food and drinks...
