First own car. Toyota Hilux vs Yaris vs Auris

I really want to buy my own car now as my brother will no longer let me use his car. I have been considering the Hilux, Yaris and Auris, all second hand. I am used to driving a corolla (current gen) but I did not quite like it.

Out of the three cars I am leaning towards Hilux though I like the Yaris. Auris is a bit expensive for me. The reason I want the Hilux is that I am getting a reasonable price for it compared to other vehicles and people tell me that it is a strong vehicle. However I have never driven a pickup before.

Requirements of the car

1) Able to withstand small accidents
2) Cheap to buy, operate and repair

Why on earth would this need negative rep????

What reason do you like each car for? Do you need carrying capacity? Cheapest Insurance? Best MPG? Most reliable?
Public transport.
They're three totally different cars!

How can anyone consider getting a Hilux or a Yaris at the same time?!

hey mr 4x4, you look real big....
and real tall!
Your 40inch wheels make you look real dapper
you work in a bank but your car says rapper!

And you could drive on the moon,
if you lived on the moon. (lol)

These other cars you dismiss, but ask yourself
can you do this? aha!

toyota yaris advert sorry this is the only thread ive been able to post this on thats even slightly relevant!

i pick yaris.
I absolutely like the Yaris. But I am getting a very nice price for a Hilux. I also like the Auris but find it expensive.

I drive for simple commute, supermarket, friends, home etc

Why does it have to be a Toyota?
Get the Yaris.

Though it's most likely to be stolen.

Someone who intends to crash into things/people on a regular basis should really not be piloting a 2 ton truck.

No one intends to crash a car! Its just a possibility to be considered

Hilux's are invincible. We had one for a while, it survived crashing into a tree very easily.

jeremy clarkson? :O is it really you?
If you know about a Yaris or Auris for a good price (2nd hand ) near cambridge UK let me know.
I dont know for sure off the top of my head but isnt a Toyota Hilux going to cost way more in fuel, tax, insurance, tyres etc to run than any of the other two? The cost of a car isn't only what price you pay for it, you have to consider running costs... and common sense would tell me a huge 4x4 will cost significantly more to operate.

EDIT: After a quick look, the Hilux gets about 20mpg (ave.) less than both the Auris and the Yaris and also has around double the CO2 emissions. This will make road tax about 4 times more expensive per year and god knows how much more expensive on fuel (also taking into acount you are mostly an urban driver). You're clearly not taking this into consideration. A couple of grand of a difference between the Hilux and Auris will seem insignificant compared to the difference in running costs.

If the Hilux is older than 2001 then it is not based on CO2.

TBH you may find that insurance is cheaper because of the fact you can 1. May be use specialist insurers 2. Not many young drivers drive them.

Investigate the running costs and really think about why you need each type of car. Look up common faults & problems etc..
