Why are some people so anti-makeup?

That's how I see it with most people. It often (not always) looks quite plain and like she isn't bothered.

Some people don't need it. My girlfriend was telling me she very rarely wears make-up, she wears it on special occasions and that's about it. I prefer the natural look but that is just my personal preference.

 That's pretty bad. I agree that people shouldn't be made to feel ugly without it, but I do think it shows making an effort which is good, in men and women. But yeah people shouldn't be made to feel hideous.

I hate it when you say that, it's not "making an effort". Men don't wear make-up, are they 'not making an effort'? No.
Why is the standard different for men and women?

A man can wash, shave and apply a nice cologne. Maybe moisturise, and he's handsome.

If a woman does this, it's not good enough and she's ugly.

The whole thing is shallow.

By wearing make-up, you make it the norm to wear makeup, and you MAKE the people who don't wear it the ugly ones.

Maybe, I just find that in a lot of cases people that don't just don't bother with anything. It's not everyone though, should have made it clear sorry.

It's ok

To answer your original question, I think people just have a problem with the badly applied make-up (i.e. the orange tarts), as those that apply it properly obviously look 'natural'

In terms of make-up, I used to wear a full face of it: tinted moisturiser (as I didn't need a lot of coverage) translucent powder to set it, blusher, mascara and eyebrow pencil but it still looked natural (apart from the lashes) My boyfriend actually said he was amazed when he first met me that I looked good without any make-up - I didn't have the heart to tell him I had a lot on  Now though, I only 'do' my eyebrows (and this means eyebrow pencil/bit of eyeshadow so they don't look too harsh, and then eyebrow gel haha) My eyebrows look gay otherwise :frown:

Edit: I don't know why I rambled

But men and women are different, so it's never going to be exactly the same. It's like women can wear trousers but men can't wear skirts (Well okay Scottish men can) but you know what I mean. If a woman does that I don't think she looks ugly, just that her appearance may improve with makeup. Men probably would look better if they wore it too, but it's seen as something 'girly' so not many men choose to.

The only person I know who is actually genuinely against all make-up is my boyfriend, but that's because he sees it sort of like 'false-advertising', and it means he has to wait around whilst I get ready if we're going somewhere special - he doesn't see the point.

Sadly, if you wear it, you're going to get bashed, and if you don't wear it, you're still going to get bashed...
Other than a little bit of undereye concealer, I don't wear makeup on a day-to-day basis because I prefer that little bit of extra time I can have in bed! I don't look amazing, but I don't look bad without it either, and I'm quite an active (as well as clumsy) person, so I can't really be bothered with it going everywhere and having to reapply.

I have to disagree with you saying that "everyone looks better" with it, though, because sometimes when you see a really attractive girl with a completely bare face it's such a surprise that it can be quite striking and beautiful! :h:

Personally I think women can do whatever they want, and if that includes wearing a reet lot of slap - good for them, but I won't be joining in any time soon.

I occasionally wear make up on a night out but i generally don't wear it to go to uni or go to work. Sometimes even on a night out i don't. But thats just my decision i'm not 'anti-makeup', i really don't care how much make up other poeple decide to wear.

Agree with the bolded, someone's always gonna' have a problem with whatever you do :hmmm:
I don't think it's fair to say that girls who don't wear make-up look like they don't make an effort with their appearance. Some girls just don't need it.
Some days I wear make-up, some days I don't. It all depends how I feel that day. But I don't like to wear foundation because I don't like the way it sits on my face, I prefer my face to look squeaky clean.

No they aren't different. Society makes them different. It's just pathetic social roles we are indoctrinated to follow. In other cultures women don't wear make-up like that every day. I'm in Tokyo right now surrounded by international students and the only people wearing make-up is me, the french girls and a couple of the Japanese girls. Everyone else is bare-faced and look absolutely beautiful without it.

You pretend it's normal, you pretend it's expected, you pretend it's natural. it's not. it's a costume for people who are unsatisfied with their own face.

Men and women are biologically different, I don't think you can say they are the same. Social roles come into play, but it's not purely socialisation that's made it so. And I think we have different ideas of 'beautiful', I don't really like the way people look without makeup. But that's my personal taste, and I wouldn't impose it on someone who likes being bare-faced. I just find it annoying when some people act superior for not wearing it.

Not this again. I really disagree with you on this point and I don't think we'll ever agree on it because we see it from different perspectives.
I don't like wearing make up much. Makes my face tight and itchy, stings when I wash it off and it's too expensive/time consuming to put on! I wear a tiny bit of pressed powder but that's usually it
People associate it too much with either caked on orange awful make-up or well applied make-up that has too much of a mask-like effect. A lot of people dissaprove of make-up that makes someone unrecognisable, unfortunately it seems that anyone who wears foundation etc. is lumped into these categories. Personally I wear make-up very seldom, on nights out and special occasions and the odd normal day. You say that people who don't wear make-up don't bother you, but you're clearly looking down on them because they couldn't be bothered to make an effort. For who? They are not all going to interviews or working in professions that would call for it. They don't need to make an impression for school or college or your average workplace. They may be secure in their own looks and not trying to impress men.
before i was with my boyfriend i was one to wear a little amount of makeups - just the mascara and blusher. one day i ran out of all makeup and went to work without it (this was at a time when he and i had not spoken to each other once) - and he approached me during a lunch break to tell me how much better i looked :O
.....aaaan-y-wayyyyy. to bring this back on topic - i once asked him why he didn't like make up, and he responded ''one word: deception''.

ohwell! no longer buying and using makeups anymore saves me time and money, and keeps my boyfriend ;D no complaints here ;D also my skin seem better now as well, so i think i will keep it this way.

I'm not on about impressing men or anything, I just think people should make an effort with their appearance. Obviously some people who don't wear makeup do this, but I've noticed a lot don't, that's all.

Ive only come across this once or twice in person but on here, loads of people seem to hate makeup with a deep burning passion, guys and girls. Im genuinely curious about this, why would you hate it? Everyone looks better with well applied makeup. Even worse, you get the people who think they have some sort of moral high-ground for not wearing it. Erm no you don't, you just look like you cba to make an effort. So why do so many people hate it on here? I dont mind people not wearing it, I just don't see why people are so aggressively against it.

Im talking about well applied makeup, not badly caked on stuff.

Wow you're right, loads of people on TSR do seem to hate make up.
I have to admit, I was one of them. I never wore make up until the summer holidays when I left secondary school. The amount of girls who wore make up at my secondary school was crazy and I thought we were a bit young to wear make up everyday. I sound like such a prude haha but there were 11 year olds covered in make up, foundation, eye liner, you name it.

I only wore make up on special occasions but after prom I started wearing mascara whenever I went out (I wear it everyday to college and foundation if it's a party etc) but that's it.

I guess I was anti make up because I was put off by the girls (mainly chavvy essex wannabe girls) who wore make up at my old school and I thought I was better than them.

Hope that answers your question!

I don't like make up because it doesn't make girls look any better and simply by existing it perpetuates the idea that whatever you look like, you don't look good enough.

Spoiler

Yes it does.

Wearing make-up is social. It's not biological.

I wear it. I still think it's pathetic that I have to though. I think it's pathetic that any woman should wear it.

Sorry my mistake, I thought you said men and women weren't different. People have always done it though, it isn't a new thing like a lot of people seem to think.

You don't have to though, you can stop wearing it surely? :s-smilie:

Because it makes pretty girls look like ugly slappers, obviously. What a silly question.

Cue 30 girls saying "oh you're obviously talking about different girls, because boys can't tell when I'm wearing makeup, and you wouldn't find us more attractive without it on" well I'm afraid to say yes I'm talking about you, yes we can tell, and yes we would.

*I'm talking about foundation here mainly. Foundation is the work of satan to punish men by convincing women to make themselves less attractive to us for no apparent reason. No-one really minds a little subtle bit of lippy and eye shadow.

I don't really dislike makeup per se, it's more I find it utterly pointless and I dislike how it causes lots of women to be bitchy towards others who don't wear it or feel self conscious when not wearing it themselves.

The same with women shaving, I don't dislike it (indifferent) but when you see women mocking others for not doing it then it's a bit too far really.
