this is sort of unrelated to everything there but what yous were saying about asking for numbers just reminded me that someone asked for mine on halloween but i was too drunk to type it in properly, so i gave him the wrong one but was too embarrassed to admit it.

so gutted, first time someones asked for my number on a night out :colondollar:and he was hot

Hahahahahaha

On another unrelated note, whilst I was volunteering there was a reallllllllly hot doctor and then I had the realisation that I've not seen any hot doctors the whole time I've been volunteering :s-smilie: For some reason I had it in my mind that most doctors were fit, but today I realised this was not true. Not for this hospital - not A&E at least :s-smilie:

OMG I now want to redecorate my room: wall of bio poster, a chem wall, a maths wall and then a photo wall (just to show that I have - sorry had - a social life)

thinking actually, ive never seen a hot doctor. like, they might have been when they were younger...but all the doctors i've seen have been old.
that said, last year on work exp i was sat in this meeting and there were two beautiful male specimens of medical students in the room as well :colone:

haha, i've had these photo frames bought for ages with the intention of printing photos and putting them up....but it has literally been 3 and a half years (i think...my maths is bad but it was before i sat my highers) and the frames are still empty. oops.

i do however have a periodic table and a jedward calendar... :colondollar:
this guy is totally my fave :colone: i use him all the time i have noticed :colone:

I never have anywhere to put frames so atm I just print pictures and blu-tac them to the door. I printed out loads of pictures of my namibia trip but I've lost them! :O Gutted doesn't even cover it :frown:

I want a huge periodic table poster! The biggest I have is an A4 one :/ Perhaps that should be my next gap year project?!

I see your jedward calendar and raise you a David Tennant one :perv::sexface::sogood: (Couldn't decide which face to use, so why not use them all

I'm sorry to disappoint but I think David Tennant tops your Zac Efron  *now to find a calender for this year that beats all 3*

I have so many pics to print out too :frown: Gonna wait until I (finally) start at the nursery and eventually get a paycheck and spend it ALL on photo printing :h:

We should have competition on with the group of the most epically pointless gap year activity but it could be on going one throughout the year  I could be winning atm as I covered a whole A4 page in tetris shapes and coloured them in and everything! It was epic!
apparently, according to russell howards show, 1 in 4 gap year people invite their parents with them:lolwut:

OMG!!! I have those or ones VERY similar! I shall take a picture and fb it! (When I find them...) They are EPICALLY COOL! I saw these hand tattoo things that remind me of them that I want Santa to bring me! http://www.shinyshack.com/product.php?prid=213869&pn=Animal-Hands
How much would you want to be a doctor in paediatrics and have that on your hand to talk to kids - then again you might not be a doctor for very long though...

Ah, I too have taken to colouring squared paper - lately along with my tetris trend has been drawing crosses in tiny boxes  72 sqwares high by 36(?) wide... that's a lot of squares! lol I have wayyyy too much time on my hands

Oh dear. That is REALLY strange.

Although having said that, a holiday with my parents next summer means its likely to be funded for me, rather than me having to pay. So purely for financial purposes, I may force myself to spend a plane journey with them (after which I will dump them for good looking waiters on holiday  )

..also, i found myself socialising (ok not really socialising.. but still continuing the conversation with no intentions to end it) with a random sales person that must have randomly called my number.

Surely this is a reflection on how pathetic my life is currently!! :frown: ohhh dear..

I just wish I knew of a way to make new friends! There are people I've met this week, on my training course for work, but I'm unlikely to see any of them again. Its all well and good being friendly with people who you will see every week at X club or when you're doing Y course, but how do you go from that to saying 'hey wanna go out sometime?'

Meet them on nights out, have an awesome time, get their numbers and do it again sometime.
Either that or just walk into their house and stay untill they're your friend.

Most of the people i've met out though i'll see on a couple of occassions, and we'll get talking and then arrange to go on a night out together sometime.

I know what you mean though at the start it was a bit strange.
Now though I know enough people to go out with no plan or whatever and just meet whoever's out.

Some of the people i've met aswell I've seen during daytime stuff like some students I met, I go round their flat sometimes and chill.
I'm very outgoing though.

Damn, so thats why I've got no friends here - I don't really do nights out. I think I'd be more suited to the walking into a randomers house and make them my friend

Tbh it's mainly mush to me and a jumble of words thrown together haha

I'm tempted to email my old teacher just to ask that... that won't be really awkward AT ALL! :curious: Ah I'm gonna do it anyways

... what's with me and the word awkward tonight? :K:

I completely want that poster so you better :P

Surely there are other ways though.
Like I've been speaking to a lot of people who've just been kinda there recently.
Like people you kinda know and see every now and then, they're awesome too.

All this talk had made me realise I should re-post the "witty" (and inaccurate) re-applicant mantra I created when I had a bored hour to spare. It's on like page10 of this thread:

So yes re-applicants is the key to this thread, I am devised a sh*ty list to help us acquire stronger applications this year and more importantly (...) to pass the time. By devised I mean think of things as I go along...

1. Have a break - now is probably the best time, I know you want to revaluate and do a little post mortem as it were of your last application but for your own sanity have a few weeks off and just stick to your daily routine of work/chill, eat, sleep..*
2. Get feedback for both non-interview and interview applicants, it is crucial to find out areas to improve on your application/UKCAT/interview technique.
3. Achieve the grades school kids focus on your grades and those in their last year of a degree, bloody hell, pull your finger out for that 2:1 minimum. Who wants to go to Birmingham?
4. Work experience more can’t hurt of course, although if you’ve shadowed 5 different doctors and worked in a ward setting for 6months+ I wouldn’t bother…there are other ways to tweak your PS.
5. Gain more confidence just in general, do things that test your character, I fall at this hurdle a lot. Talk to that attractive girl/boy at the bar, or stand up to that jobsworth at work.
6. Get immersed into your hobbies or find new ones that might be good for your PS/CV. Play golf, invent a new fruit or perhaps eat chairs.
7. Make money instead of moping around your parent’s house, occasionally earn some money eh! If you have ample experience in healthcare then just earn some pennies wherever you can, Tesco clothes might suit you.
8. UKCAT/GAMSAT revision you now know what to expect, I suggest you do multiple mock tests and purchase new materials (any suggestions for the 2nd best book after the 600Q for UKCAT??) and revel in your cerebral adventure, I’m actually looking forward to the grind.
9. Have fun I’m sure when you get into medicine you will still have fun, but truly enjoy some things you love before you have revision/doubts/patients in the back of your mind. Crack open that Father Ted box set and a box of milk tray.
10. Learn new skills if you haven’t learnt to drive yet (like me) think about perhaps trying to blitz this during the summer, just to get it out of the way. You could also master origami or learn to imitate foghorns.
11. Volunteer even if it’s nothing at all to do with medicine/healthcare/public awareness it will look good on your PS, they lap it up. For men I suggest you volunteer to be a female friend’s sex slave (and keep a diary).
12. Relive your childhood pick your nose, make immature comments (“you dropped your gay card” is a personal fave) and dribble your food down your chin. You will miss these days…
13. Create pointless lists on internet mediums - to allow maximum narcissism to occur and give people you don't know or care about something to laugh at.

*I find good relationships with family and friends, and class A drugs will help during this period.

P.S Whatever you do, do not become like this gentleman. *insert obvious youtube clip*
